Instead of using the spike, make a loop with your saddle strings and start your wrap over that. Then stick the tail of the wrap through your saddle string loop and pull it through.

What kind of spike did you say you carry with you? You used it in the start of the video. Also, a good video might be a breakdown of your EDC equipment. (Every Day Carry; Knife, Spike, pliers, etc)

When my brother and I were riding bulls we were both known to spray show sheen on a bulls back while the other wasn't looking. He got my bronc rein once...I put rosin in the holes of his bowling ball.
