Indeed, these series become more and more hollywood like, with people jumping away from explosions, weird escapes, unrealistic last minute saves, one sided fights and over the top heroics.

I think he means look up the meaning of the signal flag from the flag ship...it was meant to stall for time since Bush didn't want to retreat and it would take a while to the look up the signal in the book.

Well two out of the three I suspected, of Wolfe, Cotard, and Hammand, of being the Traitors, Wolfe and Hammand turned out to be the ones. Never fully believed Wolfe was innocent. Hammand always seemed peevish.
@SantomPh
@SantomPh 3 жыл бұрын
Cotard was, to me the least suspect. Considering that Louis XVIII was resident in England and in fact sent the force of loyalists in Frogs and Lobsters, it was surprising that Cotard didn't have some sort of royal remit to do what he did. Wolfe was always suspicious, from the moment Bush asked him why he went to Portsmouth instead of staying in the northern convoys.

@SantomPh
@SantomPh 5 жыл бұрын
Hammond was a high ranking Irish officer in an otherwise Anglo-Scottish navy. If word got out that he betrayed the Navy the other Irishmen in the fleet would all be suspect of treachery, given the stirrings of rebellion back home it would have been better to say he was a hero for the British. Hammond's family is a consideration, but they would rather have a living Jack and his uncle.

Earlier Hammond messed up reading a signal from the flagship, fumbling in his book while wasting precious time. He is certain this time that Pellew is ordering a retreat but Bush, who has been on his case ever since he first arrived, buys some time for Hornblower to return to the Hotspur by making him look it up.

at the time Ireland was suffering from British indifference and a long,abusive rule. In the earliest part of the episode Hornblower even captures an Irish sailor who sailed on Nelson's ship the Victory, fighting for the French. The Irish Rebellion of 1798 was fresh in the minds of most at the time. Even after the Napoleonic Wars Ireland suffered under British rule, especially during the potato famines of the mid 19th century.
