3:17 running as a five car is also realistic. In fact, it's more realistic than running 800004 coupled to...800004.
@dominichartley55374 жыл бұрын
Very true. But I'm sure the more serious modeller would change the numbers (and probably the coupling method too)!
@7APT75 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, Great Blog, i managed to link two Virgin Voyagers together, but i used the coupling that it as on the front, by removing the two couplings from two Dummy Voyagers and then with a micro Drill and 0.5 or 0.3 Drill Bit (very, very very small, don’t drop them as it will take you a year to find them lol) and Two Nut & Bolts of the same size, then after Drilling the Two Holes and using a mini pair of Crocodile Nose Pliers, slide one bolt in one way and on the other side, slide the other bolt in, getting the nut on such a small bolt was the hardest part, along with having Eagle Eyes or Magnifier Glass Holder to see what you are doing put the Nuts on the Bolts, easier said then done! Then just a case of putting the coupling back in the Voyagers and Bobs your Uncle. I also done a similar thing with a Virgin Pendolino to enable it to hook up to the Class 57, and it looks really smart, but remember with the Pendolino you need to use a fine saw or Knife and keep scoring the grove on the Pendolino till it comes off, that will reveal the Coupling in side. As Always Huge 👍Thumbs up👍 and Smashed the 🛎

I'm not sure if you can do this with your controller (presuming its DCC) maybe by resetting the decoders or something but you may be able to get a more realistic look by turning off the headlights on the two middle driving cars as with real 10 car sets the headlights aren't usually on, on the coupled driving cars 😀
@stucktwit87386 жыл бұрын
Well done for doing it looks great. Be good if it did come with an adaptor to do this and possibly a switch underneath to isolate the joining tail and headlights other than that, love it!

Colin Prosser we did try that (the second 800 in the vid was mine!) but it struggled to pull the whole train. it was because of all the pickups pressing on each coach was causing drag. Did look good though!
@tomlawton70876 жыл бұрын
Of course, you could use the two motor cars to pull the coaches for the eight-car rake. After all, you have already done the consist for the two locos in the ten-car rake. Nice to see the unusual running of such a long train!

Sooooo impressive, and yes I think you are right Jubilee Road is the only channel so far thats run the double cl 800, certainly the first to review it. Devon Model Railway has reviewed but stopped short of running it. Oh well. What a faff to couple them though. I cannot understand Hornby, they go a long to produce an exceptional model and fall on such a tiny but yet crucial feature. Wondering though if someone has produced a flexible OO gauge coupling which might work. Although, suppose it depends if you choose to run 2x5 cars or 1x10, what youve done WORKS. Perhaps you should send the ufea to Hornby and collect the royalties. Lol I model in N gauge am soo looking forward to the pendolino, currently and really on a slow boat from China. Hopefully in next couple of weeks lol.

i think the biggest problem is the price. and Hornby figures no one can afford the two sets. . the other thing is what you said, Jubilee Road is the only railroad where two have been run together. so hornby played the percertages. i bet most people don't even know the nose cone comes off. well they do now.. great running shot for sure. and look forward to what was next sitting there at the end..

A single Sprinter Car, that's nice. However, I think Rood Ashton Hall and Lydham Manor are jealous because the Class 800 was running and they weren't. Usually, steam engines are used to celebrate railway events. I guess the Class 800 is nice, but I would have preferred it if Lydham Manor had done the honors. It's up to you, you're the boss, it's just that, in my book, Steam Rules Supreme.

I would take two mid to large long sized NEM couplers, and cut away the D loop and hook at both sides of the coupler shaft. Then with a mini drill bit set, carefully drill a hole through the end were you cut away the D loop from. Drill the hole from the top to the bottom vertically as you need them to be able to swing left and right. Make the hole big enough to hold the small diameter of a split mini key ring link loop. Praise the ring open with pointy nosed pliers, then add a touch of some black paint and leave to dry. Next day loop it through the drilled holes in the NEMs with the drilled hole large enough for free left to right swivel movement. Reclose the mini chain ring. Now you should have two opposite connectable NEM couplers, with a mini ring joining the two in the centre. Which should allow for just the perfect amount of left to right swivel on track curves and points. Add to the mini ring and a spot of fine oil in the drilled holes for smooth friction free movement between the ring and the plastic couplers. I have not tried this myself as I just thought of it after watching the blog and reading the added comments below. If someone tries this, whether it works or fails please leave a reply with your thoughts about this coupler solution.

How did you arrange the power cars? If you had the power car at the front, and the dummy from the same set at the rear, then the two engines from the other set in the middle could be run with the lights off. I’m with the suggestion that a drawbar is the way to go; if it has to bend, then put a collection of cuts in each side so it can be flexible. (I suspect s-bends will still be a challenge!) Otherwise, a close coupling kit would allow the room during s-bends, but keep it close on the straights. Still, it’s impressive to see it running; the power cars in the middle emphasise the length of the train excellently! Regards, Tom

Hi everybody. I am not involved in model railways and such but watching this good video made me wonder if a possible solution to the problem could be to acquire an old PCMCIA slot from an old laptop and somehow jury-rig part of that to a coupler on the model, that way the coupler could be retracted inside the nose cone of each model when not in use? Best Wishes
@jillmclaughlin55216 жыл бұрын
Ask Hornby to make a coupling with two universal joints one at each end, that would do the trick.
@paulm39656 жыл бұрын
Matt good video, have you considered Kadee couplers? I believe there are other couplers on the market that are authentic to the modern couplers for the 800 loco. Other point if you run a ten car set and why not, it should be DCC and not DC. I was informed by Hornby many years ago with running DC, one train, one track, one controller. It was explained to me that the controller would be overloaded. But it is your layout and your decision. Loved the video, I have just ordered a 800 set from Hattons. I can recommend a suitable decoder if you go over to DCC. Check out Richards Everhard junction very informative.

I have a way to do it... but it would require some surgery. I'm good at 3D modelling, and I could invent a coupling with a swinging NEM pocket located in the hole, so you could use the same kind of bar couplings that Bachmann use on their class 150. I'd design it so the nose cone can be located in the new swinging NEM socket with a plug, and when you want to run them in multiple, you push a NEM bar in one vehicle, then push the other vehicle up to it, which will insert into the new NEM swinging socket in the nose of that vehicle. I'd need some detailed photos, or even better, a vehicle to work off. I could have a design uploaded to Shapeways in a few days.

Ought to drop Hornby a letter, this is clearly a silly oversight on an otherwise nice model. I'm sure they could fix it with a fairly cheap and easy alteration even if its something as simple as different NEM couplings. The set looks really smart otherwise.

Even on a seriously anticipated, rather pricey model like this, Hornby still manage to somehow seem incompetent. As you say, it's 2018 - I'd expect to do something like this in my childhood with toys, not a fully fledged product like this one. That's a right cock-up right there. Maybe they thought people would only use the dummy coupling for the looks? Who knows.
