In todays review we take a look at something very different, the Class 395 4 car Train pack from Hornby
This is a really nice model, despite one or two frustrations i had with this, all is now well and i'm glad i bought this model. I have bought the two extra coaches to give me the satisfaction and pleasure of running the full rake on my layout

I paid £160 when this model first came out!! 120 is a steal! It was important to me to get one of these as they are my local trains and I've been lucky enough to go in the cab, use the horn, the announcement and even move one slowly along. I feel VERY priveliged to have done this, it's not everyday you get to do that!!

Really enjoyable review Peter, top job. Out of all the current EMUs running on our network the 395 and the 800 are the best looking ones. As you say there is now something very different you can run on the layout. Keep safe, regards Gary.

very nice shame about the coupling but there you are that's Hornby for you but having said that it's still a very nice model and runs really well and looks great and very nice detail great video stay safe and all the best al 👍👍😁

I agree, it runs very well in DC but not very well with DCC. It skips, stutters, and bounces on the track below speed step 30...like it is having a seizure. Sorry for the bad metaphor, but very true. Speed step 31 and above it runs like a champ no matter what type of DCC decoder you install in it. The other flaw this set has are the pantographs. They were made very flimsy and not all models delivered are assembled or already broken. I've spoken to Hornby USA and Hornby UK and I am still awaiting a response on repair. This is also my first European Train purchase and it was not explained in the manual that the headlights don't light together as they do in the states. On this model are red marker lights below and headlights above in the same panel. When the headlights are on, the right headlight comes on, the left headlight is shared with the same red marker light, so it looks tilted or for a better understanding looking straight at it, you can see one light is higher than the other. I also noticed this in your video as a comparison to mine to be sure mine was not defective. it can be seen @20:47. The lights look lopsided or leaning. Lastly, coupling....connecting the cars are very simple. Uncoupling is where I worry. When trying to pull them apart, I almost have to be rough to separate them and I can't help but wonder it will break fairly soon and replacement couplers will be needed. I've had this model for almost 3 weeks now, besides these issues I enjoy it and the remarkable detail put into it.

Cheers mate, yeah the frustrations I had made me tear my hair out at one point but then we got it sorted and all is now well. Still can't understand the different Coupling design on the one Power Car. But still a really nice model

Not one of Hornby's best models, and as SL D51 says, the class 800 is far superior. Not my cup of tea, but nice review nonetheless. Take care Peter

I live near the kernow model railway centre I have spent a lot of time and money in there lovely consumer service and good prices And love this model of the javelin lovely trains

Kernow are indeed very friendly staff, been in the shop myself twice when on holidays in Cornwall, well stocked and helpful staff and they do some cracking bargains

Class47Peter of course, and there’s the price difference I think you can find this one for about 121 as well as the age. I believe the 395 was done rather quickly to coincide with the launch of the real trains in 2009

They have done a railroad version. The Blue Rapier which is a cheaper and more basic model

I picked one up at the Great Electric Train Show, the "Sir Chris Hoy" version, and it derails on every corner, even on 2nd Radius to which it is supposed to handle. I've been racking my brains, yes, pulling my hair out 😭 and still have not found a solution.

Has the bit the coupling slots in on the power car with the motor snapped? Happened with mine and caused derailments. Cut it off and all was well If not tyat i'd check the back to backs on wheels or send to Hornby for repair

@@class47peter All is well with the bit for the coupling on the power car. However I have found all bogie sets on the power cars have a little plastic post above the secondary suspension air bag to keep the bogie rubbing the undercarriage. This is the same for the 2 centre carriages but they both only have them on one end and not the other and on those ends they do seem to catch with the under body. Do you know if this is the same with your model? Thanks Peters.
