Great video, I recently bought this and it was difficult to find background on castle vs. hall locos and the confusion that causes (their naming and switching the models), so great job covering that for future purchasers. They call it a castle, but as you stated it’s a hall, so you want to buy their newer hall class TTS versus the older castle class. Was hoping for a picture of the decoder install though as I couldn’t quite figure out how they expected the speaker to fit under the weight. Thanks for the videos!
@LittleWicketRailway3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😀 Yeah, the Castle/Hall thing is a bit confusing, but at least Hornby are writing "Hall/Harry Potter" on the bottom of the decoder packs now so that it's clearer for the newer sets. I was a bit short of time, so I just shoved the speaker in the tender and left it loose as I needed to get it on the rails. If I remember to go back and properly secure it then I'll take a video, but it wouldn't surprise me if, like many of the other TTS speakers, there isn't a neat way of attaching it. Fully expect to use take and bluetac to hold it in place. I did remember to wrap a bit of electrical tape around the decoder so stop the exposed electronics from making contact with anything. Why can't they just come wrapped!?
@GG-sz1zu3 жыл бұрын
@@LittleWicketRailway Thanks for the reply. This was my first Hornby loco and install of a TTS and it certainly didn't seem to fit in the speaker space that I could figure out; hence, I asked if you knew a better way. I also taped it in place using vinyl electrical tape. Glad to hear I'm not alone.

I don’t like the front headlamp thing, it looks nice but it’s just a hole carved into the boiler, it would be a lot nicer as a headlamp like the central black headlamps on steam railtours you see today

Im new to model trains and thinking about bying this train. Can you post the link of the TTS sound decoder u are using.. or a part number.. its difficult to get this in my country (holland) or what to look for.
@LittleWicketRailway3 жыл бұрын
It's hornby reference R7294 (www.hornby.com/uk-en/tts-sound-decoder-hall-class.html) for a Hall class. A lot of places are out of stock here in the UK.
@ToldYouSo183 жыл бұрын

Like i said. Im new to this.. is there a way to change or turn on/off the sound on this trainset? Maybe with the controller that comes with it?
@LittleWicketRailway3 жыл бұрын
@@ToldYouSo18 the controller that comes with the set is an analogue controller and the set is essentially an analogue layout, but the locomotive is DCC (digital) ready. Unfortunately the analogue controller won't work with a sound decoder (the train will still move, but you won't get sound, so it's not really worth it). The sound will only work with a digital controller and with a digital controller you can turn sounds on and off using the functions. If you're new to the hobby then you should look into whether you'll want a digital or analogue layout.

@@LittleWicketRailway thanks for the info !!!! Its a shame i cant get a On30 scale train in the EU so ill have to settle with the Uk OO scale or the smaller HO EU scale.

Hi. There is a battery operated remote control set as well from hornby. Any comparison of both. Are they literally same with same details except the power and remote control. Thanx in advance.
@M0Liv3 жыл бұрын
For what type of decoder is this model "ready"? 21-pin, 9-pin, N18?
@LittleWicketRailway3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, the model in this set is 8 pin DCC ready. So it doesn't come with a decoder, you have to buy that separately. Out of the box it'll only run on an DC/analogue layout, but if you decide to change to digital then inside the model is a decoder socket. You just need to remove the anlogue blanking plate from the socket and put the decoder in. Hope that helps 👍
@1999Paulus2 жыл бұрын
Mine says ‘DCC fitted’ . I tried several times and ways of researching to see if it means that my model is truly a DCC fitted or DCC ready ( note the tiny red box information in the back of the package, in comparison with the normally prominent sign you get on other Hornby trains) and I find extremely frustrating how scattered are the information about these things. So if the box of my train says DCC fitted ( please check your box also) my question is: is my train ready to run on DCC or do I need a Decoder? Thank you very much for any help you can give me.
@SneakyMiki2 жыл бұрын
I hear it doesn’t come with batteries. What batteries do I need to make everything work?
@LittleWicketRailway2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sneaky Miki! No batteries required for this set. This version has a transformer that you plug into the mains. I think Hornby may make another version of the Harry Potter train set that might require batteries, but it's not in OO gauge.
