It took Horowitz life-time of practice and great thoughtfulness to be able to play this mighty work this well. He didn't throw one note away. Each note counted. Each note had something to say. And I don't think anyone anywhere has ever played it this well. Bravo... indeed.

When I die and go to heaven (not likely) I can only wish Horowitz will greet me this piece. Schubert's piece is heavenly, Horowitz's rendition is heavenly.

isn't it in the original score? The original was in G major and had this in
@martinstahle20064 жыл бұрын
The change was noted in my old text. When I got the new Urtext version from Henle Verlag, it was not changed. But i was used to hear the change, so i keep it like this. I don't think Schubert would be angry.
@MrMcsia2 жыл бұрын
@@TehWinnerz Schubert's original version was in G flat major (including this harmonic change). It was changed into G major after his death.

Horowitz is so calm and almost dispassionate as he plays, and yet the music is so thick with feeling. It's almost as if he has so much control, there's no emotion left above his hands because it's all pouring onto the keys.

Just hearing the 1st 4 bars of this piece, I know it's going to be beautiful. My 1st time hearing it, & I'm putting it on my repertoire list. Yeah.

I do not believe Horowitz was trying to be precise that concert. Honestly, after hearing his rendition multiple times, I think he played like this to tell the audience how he felt.

I think he's ironically referencing the Simpsons, when Homer got bored with Schubert's "Unfinished" and asked how long "Sherbert planned on making this piece of junk". If it's not ironic than yea, this guy needs to be taken out back and beaten up.
@craftylouie6 жыл бұрын
I can see where he's coming from. I'm studying this piece currently and I've listened to many different performer's rendition's of it. The piece is firstly andante, however, Horowitz plays it Adagio/largo for most of the piece. His expression in both body and music is also not as evident as other performer's such as Arthur Jussen, or even Zimerman. Shubert was a Romantic composer so though not written, his intent would've been for there to be a wide range of emotion and expression, which Horowitz is lacking when compared to other performers. Especially at 2:18, where there is supposed to be this huge climax with accents and sforzandos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWm9Za2Mrat0i80 Listen from 7:20 on the above link, and then tell me the Horowitz's rendition is not even maybe a tiny, little bit boring in comparison.

This is not boring. This is a universe of subtle shadings and evocative images. This is Horowitz.
