I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop when the first cruise line announces that the MDR is no longer included in your cruise fare. This will happen at some point, might be years, but it’s coming. While my family and I love cruising, there is a tipping point re: costs.

I'd suggest that cruise lines skip Bar Harbor from now on. There are plenty of places along the East Coast that would welcome cruise companies. If the cruise companies put in a decent docking, they'd be really welcome in numerous places with this economy.

Speciality dining is optional and a few dollars increase won't deter many since you can get a decent meal in MDR at no extra charge. We don't do specialty dining because its expensive and cruising is already expensive enough when you factor in travel expenses , animal boarding , excursions and souvenirs

my wife works in quality for a major aerospace company.she said the main reason you have break downs is the quality of parts being produced crossed the board in all industries. its the mentality of people, lack off work ethic. quality passing product just to make quota that month. ship it good or bad.the biggest problem is people. price mod everything goes up bad parts have to be re-shipped and rem-ade costs money. people want more money for less work.

truly Don, ships, other than Carnival, used to go to dry dock more often. Now they push it out as long as they can get away with it. It shows in visible wear and tear on the interiors and clearly it shows in increased mechanical unreliability. Prior to Covid, for example, Princess always scheduled dry dock maintenance every 2 years for their ships. They took a lot of pride in their high standards of maintenance. Other lines and Carnival in particular, used to push it to 3 years. Now it seems 3 years is the standard. it's sad/disappointing.
@Nicho_Ldn5 күн бұрын
Seems to me that these engine/maintenance issues are happening with particular cruise lines, namely Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Maybe it’s coincidental, but the smaller lines with fewer ships don’t hit the headlines so much.

Doing a 21 day on Majestic Princess and don't sail on Princess very often. Wondering if Princess Plus or Princess Premier is worth it? I don't normally eat in specialty dining or drink much alcohol so would it be worth the extra money?
@chrisw.98413 күн бұрын
At Elite level, and not a drinker, Princess plus way more expensive. Not worth it. Just do the math on what you want ie: specialty coffee daily, maybe 1 or 2 drinks, then add in wifi, gratuities and compare cost of thise without Princess plus. The gym classes, ice cream and juice bar with Princess plus may or may not be worth it. I find its too expensive. See for yourself

I don't understand the demand for specialty dining. I am already paying for a good meal with my basic cruise fee. Why should I pay an additional amount for a meal that probably would not be that much on land. But that is fine. The more people support that, the better my basic price will be.

I absolutely understand why smaller cities are trying to limit cruise passengers. Seattle with its massive infrastructure struggles when big ships come in, and locals dread cruise season. Imagine the strain on smaller cities. Cruise ship companies need to get realistic about the demands they’re placing on ports with these monster ships. Not fun for passengers to be 1 in 6,000 people, not fun for locals either.

Ships breaking down is nothing new. I’d like to see some hard data of ships having problems now versus in the past with an adjustment for the increased number of ships. I find when something becomes popular. The news starts to show every example when in the past probably went unmentioned so until I see some data, I’m going to figure it’s nothing new.
