@BillsFellowshipExp first let me deal with you term and concept of God. First The English word 'god' first came into use through a German term applied in the 6th-century Christian Codex Argenteus, gudan ("to call" or "to invoke" a power). The English word god comes from the Old English god, which itself is derived from the Proto-Germanic *gudą. Its cognates in other Germanic languages include guþ, gudis (both Gothic), guð (Old Norse), god (Old Saxon, Old Frisian, and Old Dutch), and got (Old High German). The word derives from goð, meaning "god".[1] It possibly appears in Ulfilas' Gothic language translation of the Bible as gudja for "priest", although the corresponding form of this in Icelandic would have been an unattested *gyði. The word derives from goð, meaning "god".[1] It possibly appears in Ulfilas' Gothic language translation of the Bible as gudja for "priest", although the corresponding form of this in Icelandic would have been an unattested *gyði. Nothing to do with YHVH though attempt to make it appear that way bit a title more associated with Norse Odin or Godane

@BillsFellowshipExp Now note YHVH 1 Kings 22:19-25 King James Version 19 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. 20 And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. 21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him. 22 And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. 23 Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee. 24 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak unto thee? 25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

I believe GOD meant what HE said. But GOD does things for reasons that we can't always explain, hence faith and trust in GOD that HE knows best, and by HIS overall character we know HE is a good and forgiving and mercyful GOD but many forget also a GOD of justice. He sent Jonah to Neniveah to give them a chance but if they would have rejected the word of GOD they would have been destroyed but for sovereign reasons. We can't always make GOD only merciful and not just as well. GOD is perfect and we are not, so how can the imperfect fully explain the perfect. We can only perceive the revelation HE has given to us individually and collectively.

I think that it is often glossed over a lot in evangelical churches today because of a movement towards the suspicion of the supernatural in these circles. Nietzsche called it the hermeneutic of suspicion. This is why cessationism is prevalent among many evangelical Protestants who claim that the age of miracles is over after the death of all the apostles, while the Catholic and Orthodox churches have never ever claimed that.

I don't agree with the hyperbolic language argument, in specific battles the Israelites fought they were specifically commanded to kill everybody, man, women and children and sometimes every animal as well. And I don't believe that Nephillim survived the flood, I believe that the fallen angels returned to the the daughters of men again after the flood.
@mele1617 Жыл бұрын
Nimrod was a mighty one....
@AmandaFessler Жыл бұрын
To say the Nephilim survived the flood implies that God failed in blotting out the corruption. God doesn't fail. So yeah, it makes more sense that the fallen angels struck again to make more kids afterward. It's also important to read the spy reports in more context. Scripture says that the report claiming the Annakim's connection to the Nephilim was "foul" or "evil". As a result, every spy except Joshua and Caleb were judged with death for lying. Sure, there were giants. But they couldn't have been Nephilim. Or at the very least, not the same ones from before the flood. This hybridization practice probably ended eventually, though, as Jude writes of fallen angels imprisoned for "abandoning their posts". Probably the ones who kept making Nephilim due to being so distracted by women.
@ManoverSuperman Жыл бұрын
@joem7799That doesn’t adequately address Deuteronomy 20, though. The command was to wipe out every living thing within the towns in the Promised Land proper (20:16-17) while allowing captives to be taken in towns outside it. In some cases I can see such a scenario as yours taking place. But with the words of the command being so clear as in the verses cited, there isn’t much provision left for adoption of even infant daughters.
@NMemone Жыл бұрын
@keatsiannightingale9256 The "hyperbolic language" argument is such a cop-out that I'm surprised anyone takes it seriously. As you point out, God's language is clear, and we need to reckon with these commands that we find challenging in a serious way. My interpretation of it is similar to yours. Time and again throughout the OT we see the leaders of God's chosen people corrupted by foreign-born wives. When sacking a city, God makes a very clear distinction between those whose women and children can be assimilated and those whose cannot. In most cases the women and children are taken into the tribe. In the handful of cases where they are not, I presume that particular bloodline is so corrupted by the worship of false gods that God wants it eliminated. It's also important to remember that those cultures actively engaged in child sacrifice. God is not commanding that anything be done to those children that their own parents were not willing to do to them. And as the previous commenter alludes to, if all their parents are slaughtered and they are unfit to join the tribe of the Israelites then the cruelest option is to leave them to starve to death. All of this may seem awful to us today, but I think that in the context of the times it makes sense.
@ManoverSuperman Жыл бұрын
@@NMemone You and I are in agreement on that, then. I agree that these difficult passages and situations have to be reckoned with and not covered up with shows of weakness or compromise. We aren’t heartless, as the enemies of the cross charge us with being. It is an ugly thing for people to die in war, famine, pestilence, etc. And God also knows this, and takes no pleasure in it as Ezekiel 18 reveals. However, I also do not think it gives an atheist a sufficient ground for pious disbelief. I myself as an atheist used to stand on the idea that I was too “moral” and good to accept worshiping a deity who ever commanded this much killing. But as I wisened up and took things more seriously in the understanding that we live in a broken and ugly world in which sometimes only ugly solutions can be proposed, my pious disbelief and pretensions vanished. I, too, was a creature of my time and culture-a soft, cushy, white Liberal culture ignorant of the realities of the greater part of the human experience around the world throughout history. At any rate, I realized the Logos to be wiser and more sufficient in His judgments than myself even in my own.

Context is ALWAYS important. As you read the Old Testament, you find references to giants interspersed among other groups, tribes if you will. Those occurrences present exchanges among these giants and the local people, exchanges in commerce, marriages, and religions. Just as in the days of Noah, the giants effectively corrupted man in all ways, including religious sacrifice, particularly sacrifice of babies to Molech. The evil among these peoples could not coexist with God’s chosen, and must be removed.

When God commanded His people to eliminate human tribes (not the giants and fallen angel interbreeds) it is indeed written to destroy them, BUT it is also written to ALSO NOT intermarry them.. THIS is Frank Turek’s position on why the language used is hyperbolic, because logically how could God tell you to not marry a woman who is already dead?🤔 Rather, to kill the evil and wicked men in these evil tribes would be to kill their seed, and then you would just let the women and children die off naturally, probably under your tribe’s care/supervision so that that same evil could not be stirred up to grown once more… only speculative on my part because I have not done enough research on this topic, but I do believe this to likely be the case, as funny enough Paul himself echoes a similar sentiment to those who are attempting to preach circumcision as necessary for salvation to the gentiles, saying it would be more beneficial for the body of Christ (the church) if those who preached circumcision would go the extra step and cut “the whole thing off” and “emasculate” themselves so that they couldn’t spread their false gospel through their offspring💀 TALK ABOUT AN ABSOLUTE DISS🔥 God stopping evil and Paul stopping lies are both examples of extreme action (seemingly to us) needing to be taken in order to stop something that will inevitably cause more harm than good in the future.

0:47 The verse in Ps. 137 has a literal meaning and a spiritual meaning. The latter applies to us. We'd better kill "Babylon" inside us on the baby level rather than wait till it grows. I e better to get rid of simple anger than wait till one has full blown hatred to deal with, better look away from a pretty woman one can't marry than wait till one is horny etc ... The former simply means that the cruel conquerors of Babylon were lucky bastards. God was going to bless them materially at the conquest of Babylon. That baby-smashing wasn't full blown genocide, btw, it was terrorism. After Cyrus' conquest, Babylon lingered on in Akkadian into NT times.

The giants after the flood are due to the suggestion of one of the giants clinging to the outside of the Ark who then went on to make his own kingdom.

What need does God have of hyperbole? This argument doesn’t make since because (1) they are comparing the tendencies of men (hyperbole) to the actions of God (2) doesn’t God go into more detail in the story by being specific about not leaving one child or woman?

Maybe we should just acknowledge that God is a sovereign judge and acts according to His own purposes in His infinite wisdom, which we don’t and can’t grasp. We should acknowledge the goodness and severity of God, and leave the specific outcomes in His capable hands. People who murder others according to their own purposes apart from God’s command will be severely judged for their actions. Clear enough. Don’t use these texts to justify your own murder. Personally, I have never heard convincing arguments regarding these questions, including Dr. Brown’s thoughts here. Maybe we ought not exercise ourselves in things beyond our comprehension. They tend toward much speculation and little edification in the faith. But, hey, have at it.

No way is it hyperbole or exaggeration. Read the battles in context and you will note that it was not hyperbole. Remember what happened to King Saul. God told him to go in and totally destroy this enemy, but he brought back animals from the battle for sacrifices along with the King of this enemy that he was suppose to kill. . He was rebuked by the prophet Samuel for disobeying the Lord and not carrying out the Lord's command. Hyperbole is a weak concept.

There was a group of angels that left their abode and slept with the daughters of men. But not all of the fallen angels that fell immediately slept with the daughters of men. The ones that did ended up getting locked up in Sheol. But the others had not yet slept with the daughters of men. After the flood, then those remaining fallen angels ended up sleeping with the daughters of men. There also is a possibility that there was another group that had left their abode and committed that same atrocity. The Bible says “whenever they leave their abode…”

I am tracking with you...if God's image bearers (sons of God) could do it once, why couldn't they do it again after the flood? I have heard some refer to this illegitimate procreation as evidence of multiple rebellions. Continuing with that logic, when and why did it stop? I need to do more research on this but it seems as though Sons of God (angels) still have free will.
@crgproperties1893 Жыл бұрын
I have read this too but I kind of like the narrative of sons of God rebelling again. The pattern is already established which means we don't have to speculate on a new storyline. This theory allows for multiple rebellions from fallen angels even though only 1 of the rebellions is recorded@@CianFoley
