this is definitely just curly's last thoughts before the cryo pod completely froze him, just guilt and "what if's" that he should've just done serious measures or if he never insisted jimmy in the first place. Curly knew what Jimmy did but didn't take full responsibility to stop a butterfly effect that lead to the inevitable doom of the crew. All because he cared for someone who didn't deserve it.

I agree but his flaw wasn’t caring for Jimmy his flaw was not focusing on the issues within this ship like refusing to let Anya have something to protect herself or letting Jimmy into the cockpit as he was mentally unstable. It supposed to tie into the theme of responsiblity in the game :)

I do like the belief that this dlc is Curly left alone with his thoughts after the ship crash, it adds a neat extra bit to the full game. What an interesting character…

I came here back after Mouthwash. Damn I completely forgot there was a promo game. That might be a bit of a stretch, but the fish kinda remind me of the Pony Express crew, perhaps from Curly's perspective himself. The first fish kinda sounds related to Jimmy, that whole talk could easily correlate with the false brotherhood/"I need your power, you need me" dynamics that end up happening between Jummy and Curly. The cake fish reminds me very much of Swansea, he's big, grumpy, tough and darkly witty, and the cake could possibly be allegory for alcohol. The mouthwash fish could be both Anya and Daisuke, the "lowest rank" of the crew, Anya is distressed from carrying a huge emotional burden caused by the series of disasters on board, and Daisuke is lost due to his inability to have career ambitions. That's just my theory.

Let's not forget the fact that Swansea liked the pony express cake! Sure a small detail but I feel like big, grumpy fish, talking about "not touching" something AND eating a cake (which I think might have been the exact same as in mouthwashing) is very much implied to be Swansea The "not touching" his cake reminded me a lot of his relationship with Daisuke, not allowing or not wanting him to touch stuff and being overall body with him for his own good *Edit Also the mouthwash fish gives me huge Daisuke vibes, feeling lost and confused, considering the fact daisuke was just as lost (in his life, having no idea what to do) as the fish. And being covered in mouthwash in wich the poor guy was drowning his worries and himself in AND later got his wounds "fixed" with the same mouthwash Obviously the fish could be Anya or both of them, but daisuke fits the fish more in my opinion

@@VincentPerhaps The mouthwash fish is definitely more ambiguous. The dialogue talking about how they want the two simple choices back definitely sounds like it relates to how Daisuke didn't know what to do with his future. I think he mentioned college at some point during Mouthwashing, but in the end he let his Mom make the decision for him. The fact that the fish is covered in mouthwash and how it says it doesn't drink the "funny water" anymore also points towards Daisuke. He's the only character we see drinking mouthwash besides Swansea, and he gets covered in it right before he dies as a "disinfectant". However, the way the fish talks really reminds me of Anya. The stuttering and almost crying makes me think of how scared she was to make decisions, and also her lack of conviction in the game. The only things she followed through on were related to her death, with her hiding the gun as a precaution against Jimmy and then her deciding to OD. It seems like that when Anya first locked the door to medical, she had been planning to end Curly as well, but she didn't go through with it. I don't know, there's a lot to unpack here.

I feel like the mouthwashing one is Daisuke? Because the part at 9:56 before manly drops down you can hear something like a baby crying. And I think that alludes to Anya more. Although I still don't know what's happening in the scene. Edit: watched someone else's play thru and it's very clear that this is Anya. The thing that is consumed (hard to tell here) but it's a tiny tiny fish. Which is connected to the big fish. It's Anya bro that's messed up 😭

IKR? It reminds me of old Indie "let's play" KZbin, but Manly's found his niche in the obscure indie genre, whereas most KZbinrs start playing more and more common/trending stuff the more popular they get. I'm glad there are people still doing these unknown indie games. It's like a metaverse of unrestrained weirdness and creativity that feels more vast than the narrow scope of common denominators that make mainstream games popular. I feel like this might be a metaphor for corporate life, kinda like fishes trying get bigger by climbing the corporate ladder, getting people on your side (or forcing them to work for you, because you're bigger, even to someone who aspired to be the big fish instead)... Or maybe it's about corporations getting bigger (getting people to work there, and eventually absorbing other corporations when you get big enough), or something. I think the base game is also a commentary on society in a way? Or reminiscent of that anyway. Though for the guy in the bandages... I assume he's talking about doing some sort of crime or something illegal. "A few trips", "easy money". Perhaps running a scam or scheme of sorts... but find themselves unable to quit.

I feel like it calls out all those situations and more. The fish from the start encourages you quite creepily - obsession. The mouthwash fish seems almost drunk - alcoholism. The big fish won't stop eating cake - gluttony. Even the gameplay calls out Katamari Damacy, because no matter how big the Katamari gets, there's usually something you can't quite pick up. It all comes back to the title. People always say change can wait just one more day, no matter the scale. When people re-schedule, eat a chip, or smoke a cigarette, there's always the last one - and then another.

Not sure about the base game, but for the bandaged dude I got the impression he was talking about the Army? Especially after the joke about the losing limbs and hearing part (10:40) , his bandaged face and missing limbs also helping contribute to that (16:45). The part at (15:22) really nailed the coffin though, talking about convincing another person to join or rather enlist using words somebody else used on him, a recruiter probably, as well as the "trips" being deployments and it being "easy money" which is something I've actually heard people say about the army.

"katamari" type gameplay is specifically PATENTED (although I do not remember the specifics of said patents off the top of my head; therefore, this game may be completely legal based on which country the devs operate from). it's gross how anticompetitive patenting an entire gameplay genre is, so it's always a treat to see something new in the category.

The last time I went fishing, was in 2019. I went with some family to a lake and stayed in a cabin. The fish I caught was 27 inches and it was a Northern something. It wasn’t very happy at being caught obviously. Put up quite a fight and was flapping all over the place. When one of the dock boys came out to get the fish, it actually slapped the guy in the face with its tail. He was like, “You’re done, fish!” Then, he got the axe and chopped its head off. I also remember finding a bunch of toads stuck in the filters in a pool. Tried getting them out, but they kept hopping back in. Many died that day, I think. Oh, and then I saved a fat bee. I think it might’ve actually been a queen bee. It was in the pool, drowning. I had one of those noodle floaties and scooped the bee up with it and gave it a ride to the side of the pool and set it down gently on the edge. Then, I sat and watched over it to see if it would survive. We just sat there, staring at each other for a long time. And then she eventually flew off. I was like, “You better tell your bee friends not to come after me!” Saw a few bees later that day when I went fishing and the bees left me alone.
