It’s time to go thru all the fabulous horror I read for the brilliant Horror MAYhem event! Loads of short novels and short stories kept me entertained and spooked during the month!
Drop your thoughts in the comments!
Thanks for watching, as alway :-)
*I was very sorry to hear the news that Scott Bryant (who along with his wife Becky at ‪@thebookishbryants‬ created this wonderful horror reading event) sadly passed away this week. My thoughts go out to Becky and to all of Scott’s friends in the BookTube community. There’s a GoFundMe campaign running to help Becky covering costs after Scott’s loss, please consider donating if you’re able.* gofund.me/3bcea55a

Great Wrap- Up Alex and thanks for the kind words. Agree with you that Dolly was mediocre at best. I loved 30 Days Of Night, the movie. I may need to turn to Audiobooks one day, as my eyes seem to be failing me as I get older. The Pit and The Pendulum is my favorite Poe story. Queen of Teeth sounds wild. Good job with the bingo board.

No worries, Cliff - thanks for watching! The Pit and The Pendulum - so good! My favourite Poe story so far, by a mile, though I definitely need to read more of his work, it's really atmospheric. I love audiobooks, they're what got me into books properly a few years ago - if you can find the right ones for you then I think you're in for a treat. Takes a bit of experimenting though, to find the sorts of narrators you enjoy. Is definitely a different experience to reading the text though, I can see why they're not for everyone. Queen of Teeth was indeed wild - perfect description for it! Wild and wonderful though 😂

Ooo. I am really intrigued by the Gou Tanabe. I managed to hit every square except home invasion. It was a record reading month for me. I did Horror Mayhem, the Asian Readathon, and Misery May. I figured I was over-committed, but decided to push and see how much I could read... ended up reading 7800 pages. (16 novels and 16 novellas, the rest short stories, comics, zines, and graphic novels.) Interesting to know I could read that much while working full time... but found I prefer to take a bit more time with each thing I read, particularly taking a little time after to think about it and let it sink in.

I highly recommend it! Tanabe nails the atmosphere. I can't wait to read Vol. 2 - it's shot to the top of my priority list of books to buy next. And I'm itching to hit 'Buy' on all of his other Lovecraft adaptations too - I need to restrain myself! All in good time...😂

You killed horror mayhem. Loads of reads for May. 30 Days of Night the film and comic were both really good. I think "stylized" is the best way to describe the artwork. It's definitely different than the norm. I recently bought the compete works of Poe and Lovecraft, so I will slowly introduce myself to them. Read a bit of Poe over 30 years ago, so I don’t remember much other than I enjoyed him. Happy June readings.

Cheers! I definitely favour shorter writing at the moment, I love being able to get through so many stories in one month! Yeah, the artwork in 30 Days of Night is definitely different to most comics I've read, and I really appreciate that. Templesmith's visuals really fit the tone of the story so well. I'm pretty new to Poe, only started reading his work last year, but so far so good - will definitely explore more! Happy June readings to you, my friend! 😀

Another jam-packed reading month for you. I'm very jealous, though -- I've spent the last several months just reading the same 34 stories over and over. And over. 🙃

Yep, a great (if not rather busy) month! Loved being able to get through so much short stuff - am really appreciating short stories a lot these days. I know, poor you, having to re-read the same stories again and again. But then, you made your bed, so.... 😜
