He underestimates Pennywise. In the movie this isn’t explained at all but for a little context remember The Shining, and how the little boy in the movie had psychic powers? Well the Loser’s Club also have that ability. That’s why they are the only kids in Derry who manage to successfully fight Pennywise. It’s stated trauma is the key to awakening that ability regardless of you can’t “Shine” Pennywise is gonna fuck you. He’s far stronger in the novels than he is in the movies. That’s quite possibly why in the movies when they imagine that pole thing being able to damage Pennywise it actually works.

For me the five horror movie monsters I wouldn't survive from. Pennywise: if you know ANYTHING about the books...you know why. Jason Voorhees: enough said. Michael myers: enough said. For me the five horror movies monsters i think I could survive from and why. Ghostface: said in the video, clumsy and human and can be taken care of if your smart/strong enough. Chucky: same reason as the video, don't even pick that fucking doll up and if you do automatically burn it or throw it away. Valak: from the Annabelle movies, the way you win is by knowing his name which gives you dominon over the demon which allows you to banish it back to hell(and sense I read alot of...dark stuff in the past which thankfully has kept with me i would most likely automatically think it's valak or a type of demon and say it's name.) Pinhead: just Don't open the box. Maniac cop: you can kill/burn him sense he is pretty much a jacked zombie. Easier said then done but like Ghostface or Chucky just overwhelm it.
