It’s a pleasure to have ‘Still Waters Run Deep’ premiere on Alter. Everyone worked really hard through the cold weather to make this film so it’s great to finally get it in front of the appropriate audience. I hope it doesn’t put anyone off going camping anytime soon!

My take on it is that he fell and hit his head on the tree stump which knocked him out and likely gave him a concussion. That led to him having this vivid fucked up dream to where he kills his gf and tries to hide the body. Then in the dream realizing her body is not there when he wakes up, which is why he goes to look for her, before finally snapping back to reality and waking up back in the woods where he was knocked out. He may have only been knocked out for a minutes to a couple hours. Because his gf had not come looking for him if he was passed out all night and into the next morning, where she would've likely found him by now. The tree with the carvings may have been a cursed tree of a previous couple, which could have also contributed to the haunting dream he had while he was knocked unconscious. The girlfriends is likely still alive at the bottom of the hill still waiting on his return. Just my take on it.

My perception on this is simple. I feel like when we are at the happiest points in a relationship we can have the greatest fear of losing that person. The romantic getaway in the woods with the intention to propose had the man at the happiest point and he was ready for the ultimate commitment. I think we all have some sort of vivid nightmare of losing someone - especially in the times we love them the most. We wake up from them nightmares traumatized, and it seems like it takes a little bit to snap back into reality and get relief. This was a great portrayal of that. In my opinion.

So based on the end of it, what likely happened is the man fell and hit his head and got a concussion and had some sort of weird horrible dream of murdering his girlfriend while he was knocked out from the concussion. The tree might’ve been cursed that he signed his name into. I’m not sure if that seems the most likely thing.

If y'all familiar with Itachi's genjutsu.... something similar happened I guess....the guy fell n hit his head...after that he had a dream about killing his fiance , hiding her body n everything within that few minutes of having concussion...at the very end ( if ya watched it till the end) he actually woke up from that dream...n maybe his fiance is still waiting for him to return....i think this is what actually happened.... like it was a curse...if ya anybody carve names or something...that jutsu or dream sure gets activated....also I think that illusion of someone standing was deliberate...as the moment anyone tries to see that shit closely ( talking about that ghost)...that person will sure to fall exactly the same spot like every other victims....

My take on it is that he seems to love her very much but they've been together for such a long time, 10 years I think but he still hasn't proposed. His girlfriend is losing hope but still loves and wants to be with him. Maybe he had trust issues or smth in him didn't feel ready for a long term commitment bc he isn't sure that he will be good enough. Maybe he thinks that after marriage and a long time of being together, his dark side (the strange man in the woods) will eventually come out and destroy what he most loves, hence killing his girlfriend right after carving on the tree while thinking of proposing. And I think that all of this is portrayed in a lucid dream he has after falling down and hitting his head.

I definitely agree on your point of view on this film, But what really caught my attention was when the girlfriend was in the tent texting. That right there seems to me that she was having a illicit affair with someone else. And with the supernatural element of the story, it just seems to me that the forest had some way of showing him the true of what she was doing behind his back.

A lot of people saying they don't understand what happened - it's ambiguous for good reason :) it forces you to really investigate it yourself. There's little talking which allows for a wider scope of emotional and atmospheric tension - of which both the lead actors did a brilliant job of articulating in both movement and expression. There are a number of signs that point towards the meaning behind it all, the tree(s), the sounds, and the specific shots and framing etc. This kind of horror is so much more profound than a few jumpscares and a gorey mess. The colour pallete is beautiful and the function behind each specific colour choice (yellow/blue coats, dark water, even the daylight setting) is very satisfying. This is very original given its setting, as well as insanely-well shot - I'm a huge fan of interesting cinematography so this was a pleasure to watch. I look forward to more :)

This is one of the takes I had but maybe, the man he saw took control of him after he hit his head. That’s why he killed his gf then immediately regretted it. I think it’s a possibility the creepy man in the woods left the boyfriend right where he took control of him, after adding another woman’s body to the lake. The next person to carve their initials may see the girlfriend that was killed in the woods. So long story short, tree is cursed, person they see is the person who is killed, lake filled to the brim with bodies.

Seriously, why do all these "film makers" only make 1/2 a film. This one looked good and started with a cohesive story and then it's as if the director just got bored and ran out of ideas so they just ended the film. That's why it has so few thumbs up and positive comments compared to the amount of views. ALTER also absolutely loves to ruin the shorts with their thumbnails. I've seen people complain about that time and time again yet they still insist on ruining these people's films.

Well, from what I could tell, the boyfriend hit his head on the wood stump, I guess the craving of the initials on the cursed tree of the couple represent those who ended up killing the other half, and and the murder is haunted by their action, I'm just speculating, could be wrong.

I’m thinking that tree that had already had another couples carving in it the same thing probably happened to that couple that happened to him. I think the tree made him possessed or made him go crazy and that’s why he killed his girlfriend and then as soon as he did it he like snapped out of it that’s why he was crying right after he killed her. I can’t for the life of me fathom how or why any filmmaker would think anything more than 26fps is a good idea. It’s not and it never is, never will be. 24fps should be your STANDARD. Just because you _can_ film 60fps, doesn’t mean you should. Higher fps are meant for very specific uses. Non slow motion filmmaking is NOT one of them

He killed his gf, the first scene is a flashback on how he is possessed by the evil spirit. The blood on his head is proof he is unconscious alone in the woods, the spirit possessed his body commit the murder, after the act, he regain his consciousness and regret what he has done. BTW, He is actually camping alone, he dumped his gf body on the lake. Just my 2 cent theory.
