“Superpower girl” Mina, is in the top of her class, the center of attention and the envy of everyone. “No-power girl” Juri is the total opposite, as her classmates sometimes forget she even exists. One day, Mina can't seem to close her eyelids, while Juri discovers her hidden powers. A weird series of events to these teen girls shock the world! We hope you all enjoy Soo-young Kim's SUPERPOWER GIRL!

Rather than horror, there should be a genre 'creepy' in which these kinds of movies could be included..
@WatchALTER
@WatchALTER 4 жыл бұрын
We do try to go by the literal, and broad, definition of horror. If a film makes us feel fear, shock, or disgust, then we believe its horror. However, because we know there are so many different kinds of horrors/subgenres, we are considering being more explicit with what each type of horror it is. For example, "Zombie Horror" is different than "Psychological Horror," at least sometimes. Nonetheless, thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate all feedback.

The best suggestion I've heard was by an old writer from the 80s - Charles L.Grant -: he said there should be a genre called "Dark Fantasy" ( which encompasses stories of the supernatural, & subtle horror - his suggestion never really took off, but I think it was a good one - I use that term myself whenever discussing creepy-type stories that rely on suggestion, & an accumulation of terror, instead of full-on gore.

This story has a sad yet sweet ending I think. Im glad that juri could help Mina sleep but I’m guessing that Mina probably died in the end too. I feel bad for both in the end because one was overworking and one just wanted to be noticed but i think that factor plays greatly in the end because while both have abilities and concerns they were able to help each other. So technically juri got noticed in a semi positive way for her ability while being helpful and Mina could finally get help socially to better her health and not just doing it herself. Thus making them help each other and resolving both issues. Friendship tho :)

@@ramiaclark1980 I have seen the golden roads of heaven to the burning oil fields of hell. Rode with the ferry man to learn, good and evil is in the eye of the beholder. If a hopeless man steals to eat, is he in the wrong because of theft? If a man kills an alleged child molester in the name of justice, is he evil for murder? If a man preaches hope and salvation at the cost of 3 easy payments of $14.95, is he corrupt for his con? The thief wants to survive, the murderer believes he is just, and the conman gives hope to the desperate. As a teacher I would say that this story shows how cruel an educational system can be. Invisible students, low self-esteem, unbridled competition, and unreasonable demands. No wonder some countries have high rates of anxiety, depression and suicide among children, adolescents and young adults. And the amount of avaliable drugs to deal with the problem.

I am so confused- It seems like Juri got jealous of Mina who wasn't social yet seemed to be popular. In reality, Mina's life was hell due to the constant pressure coming from her dad. Juri accidentally uses her power on Mina after talking to the teacher and as a result, mina is pulled out of her own world and becomes vulnerable. Without this, Juri would have learned to hate Mina for having 'superpowers' Juri just wants to be accepted but when that finally happens after sewing class, she realizes its not what she expected. The other girls and even the teacher take advantage of her sewing skills and as soon as the teacher makes one comment, Juri is right back to being tortured which causes her to snap. Her powers intensify with her pain and she kills the teacher and two mean girls. Juri sews the mean girls together because they hurt her with their bodies (Hitting her stepping on her...) and she sews the teacher's mouth shut because the teacher hurt Juri with her words. Mina embraces Juri's newfound powers because with Juri's help, Mina can finally close her eyes. I think it's important to note that in this film, 'Superpowers' are anything that sets someone apart. For mina, it's her intelligence but for Juri, its actual powers. Her words cause Mina to be unable to sleep or even blink and she seems to have an extreme affinity for sewing and supersede while doing it. does any of this make sense? Help?

Simply put, those 'superpowers' are gift (or talent). At the end of the clip, it says 'noone knows where The superpowers came from.' Its basically an evil or twisted manifestation of the gifts. Mina - she said she needs to memorize more words and in order to do so, she just keeps reading and trying to memorize everything to score the top of class. Juri - her gift could be anything else but the knitting class started after her talk with her teacher. Just look hard enough and eventually she took interest. (Assuming there's no class in between needlework class and teacher's pep talk). Soon after her gift manifested and twisted into this horror clip.

@@alexandrakratz1292In some ways, you could say that about most Japanese and Asian horror. There are scary, and sometimes messed-up moments, but there are also beautiful moments in between in these films. Something about the opposites, by the end, coming back to each other and the main character, Mina, asking the "lowest" superpower girl to help her, to help her end her pain and misery. That ending though was one I did not expect, the way she had her hands bandaged I should've got it, but it was a sneaky delivery that I think works for the film.

The one wants to be the smartest, the other one needs compliment/ acceptance and she does had it after her teacher spoke to her. But then both "superpowers" went wrong because actually no one cares about both. The label "superpower girl" was made by other classmates and the teacher who we could see in here were portrayed as the "normal" school girls but actually they were the one that made juri and mina think that they were not good enough as a person, so mina tried to be the number one while juri seeking acceptance and compliments from others. And that is actually humans feelings i think. I believe all of you guys would be very proud to be the smartest, the sportiest, the prettiest, and we also sometimes craving for compliments. But when it gets to "hard" could be something like juri and mina. They had a pressure of their talent because they think of it too much and their classmates and the teacher were giving them an overreacted reaction about their talents when they actually didn't even care AT ALL, which making them even more pressured. you can see in the scene when juri start to seewing many clothes, it gets faster as the pressure gets bigger. In conclusion the main of the story is kinda like for the one who had a "superpowers" or ability that differs you from your friend, please don't take it as a burden that your really really need to be always good at your talents and stop forcing yourself, stop if you reach your limit. And for the friends or people around, stop saying that the one who had a talents has to be always good at their talents and stop being fake like you care and interested about them when actually your not and just using them for you own purpose. Well, this is basicly how i thought. Maybe someone had another thought? Sorry for poor english.
@hyliadreamer
@hyliadreamer Жыл бұрын
Sure, your English might need work, but you made an effort. And you made your point well, so that's something, right there; good job! :) There are a lot of native English speakers who do far more poorly than you did, and so they have no excuse. Since your comment was from two years ago, I'm guessing that you've probably improved nicely since then. I kind of understand both of the girls in this film. I was like Mina, always at the top of my class as a child, but I sacrificed for it by becoming a bit like Juri--though, luckily, not to an extreme case. I was smarter and different, so I got bullied a lot as a young girl, and I deal with anxiety and depression as a result. It's not easy. There are prices to pay for everything. I could have been a popular person, I suppose, but my studies came first. Instead of socializing during breaks between classes, everyone knew I'd be either reading a book of my own, or getting a jump-start on my homework.

With Juri she realizes she has an inner voice [she slowly becomes mentally broken ]- an in the process of trying to keep " eye contact" she forces Mina's eyes to stay open- making her unable to rest or even close her eyes to blink- Mina ends up feeling as though 'voice' is some creature beginning to eat her eyes open. Since Mina cannot keep her eyes from drying out, her eyes become severely bloodshot and dry making them a bright uneasy red color. Once Mina finds out about Juri being able to sew , she asks for help. But Juri becomes scared, not wanting to hurt anybody else. So once she helps Mina, she begins sewing her fingers together to keep her hands from continuing to sew. But once Mina turns toward the other girls, the definition of "Help" was Juri having to painful sew Mina's eyes shut, making Mina bleed out causing her to die not so shortly after[most likely seeing the other sewn people,knowing death could be a better solution] .The girls see that the teacher and two other girls were killed from Juri sewing the teachers mouth closed , maybe even ripping out her tongue. Then the two other girls were possibly killed by forceful trauma then, being sewn together by their arms .

Is this a commentary on stresses of high school? ie being pressured to excel, taken advantage of for you talents, favoured by the teacher, while still being bullied by other students? Honestly I'm not sure. There are so many confusing scenes, eg the scare in the beginning, missing mother, students being sown together etc.
@kaitlyn8843

technically the sewn together can fit well into your theme. we want friends, a place to belong, someone to be close and share things with. maybe them being sewn together shows one let the other influence them until they become one or that they relied on one another too heavily and weren't their own person.

I feel like I, and most of the comments explaining the film, are missing something important. Eyes seem to be an important motif. Juri starts off not really looking at anyone and not being noticed herself. She is told by her teacher to make eye contact and starts trying it. Mina tapes her eyes open while studying and later becomes unable to close them. What really got me thinking that there's deeper meaning to the use of eyes though, is the ending. Juri sewing Mina's eyes shut must be meant to symbolize something important. Might try watching it again when it isn't so late just to pay more attention to what they eyes might mean.

@wishing9wonder 4 жыл бұрын
Not saying that dark classrooms are a thing,(probably for the sake of film designing and creating atmosphere) but classing at night time is very common(almost universial) in S.Korea, where the film takes place. Korean High school starts at 7:00AM, ends at 10~11pm ish.(Some with dorms let them study til 1AM) Our formal classes end at about 3-5PM. But let the students 'voluntarily' study.(This time is literally called 'night-time voluntary studying' which is ironic given the fact that if not all, most of the student's stay to study for that time) Schools even have dinner meal plans for students as well as night time school buses.

@@fernandaaguil Korean University application system is such a unique, cruel, hell-like meyham that it's impossible to elborate on this comment section. But the 2 main componants would be in-school evaluation (mid, finals, projects and homeworks) and KSAT, the big university entrance exam.(Korean, Mathmatics, English, 2~3 additional subject of your choice) We have an infamous system where it's so common to study way ahead our school curriculum(I remeber start studying for KSAT at 8th grade when the official school curriculum starts at 10th grade, it was so common that I was even almost considered 'late in the game') I personally have a deep interest in how other country's school/uni applying works( both of my parents are phds in education, reading and learning about other country's student life/school curriculum was my hobby + studied abroad several times in my teen years bcuz of my parent's profesion) and believe me, S.Koreans have the highest most diabolic, devastating competitive culture ever, hence the voluntary studying where most of the kids tend to show up. Also, another common misconception. - It's not just memorizing shit. It's one of the most sophisticated, complex and progressive testing system that it requires wayyy more abilities - like logical deduction, creativity, Quick thinking, metaphors, sub-context recognition etc.- than if not all, most college entrance exams in the world. There's not much to poke and criticize other than our hyper-competitve culture. I fucking hated every single moment of it. Definitely one of the premierKZbin horror shorts, certainly one of the most creative. And, to top it off, the little humorous touches really make this a winner!

I've been watching alter from a long time but this one totally got my nerves off. I am horrificly terrified and had goosebumps in all the video. This is a perfect example of horrific desire to make everyone happy.

Mina's whispering "eye contact" over and over reminds me of the autistic kids I work with trying to learn how to behave they way they think society demands, learning, learning all the little rules by rote. Poor thing.

too much is not good. i also experienced that, that i really do need to study so much because I'm scared to fail. But thankfully, i realized that it's not about my grades anymore it's all about myself. Thank you Alter for this wonderful short film 💕
