I think he chose to believe this illusion again, he couldn't bare the pain of losing both his son and his wife and he had no one to turn to, noone and nothing he cared about or, subconsciously, nobody to care for him. He chose to give up the rest of his life and be happy in a madeup world where she was still alright rather than to face the cold, hard reality. It's kinda like when I have a minor breakdown and choose mit to take my medicine, the voices and images and all of that stuff can be disturbing and troubling, but when I find myself in some sort of imagination scenario everything is just so clear and even though most times I don't really understand it afterwards, it all makes perfect sense to me at that moment. And that is just so much easier than living in reality.

Lol so many people want this to be a full movie, and then complain when movies who have a good plot run way too long. How exactly could this be turned into a full movie? Literally everything is here, and that's why it's already beyond perfect.
@tbirum5 жыл бұрын
I get what you are saying BUT, in this short everything was perfect, I think what people want is a movie that is 90-120 minutes long that is perfect.Imagine if instead of this being a 9 minute short, someone made a 90 minute movie that was this perfect.The Movie "The Sixth Sense" was a great film and had a perfect twist ending, now that is a movie that could have been done as a short and it would have been great, BUT since it was done as a feature film, we got a fantastic full length feature film that blew people away, because we see this "The Doll Maker" as a short (and its perfect) doesn't mean that had the film only existed as a 90-120 minute feature film doesn't mean it could also be perfect.I loved this and agree with you that, its perfect, BUT that doesn't mean that had the makers of this short had the money to have made a feature length film they couldn't have fleshed it out in such a way to have also made it perfect.Of course we have all seen films that sucked as a feature film, but had they done it as a short it could have been amazing.I hope that they don't try and turn this into a feature length film, but like you I think it is perfect as is, but I can understand those who wold have loved to see it as a full length film.

@tbirum5 жыл бұрын
Well I understand what you are saying, but let me once again refer you to the movie "The Sith Sense" (obviously I loved this movie) We see the character of Cole, and we see the character of Malcolm, now since the story is about a kid who see's dead people, and it turns out that the twist is "Malcolm" was dead the whole time but didn't know it did we really need to see the part where Malcolm and Cole go to that little girls wake, where we end up seeing that it was the mother who poisoned her little girl? or how it was that Malcolm died? or the fact that Cole's teacher used to be called "Stuttering Stanley"? When a movie is expertly written and acted, and cast, it just draws the viewer into the lives of the characters and the emotions the characters feel are also, to an extent felt by the viewer, because the viewer has been going through the journey right along with the character."The Doll Maker" in my opinion, was PERFECT, it told a story in less then 9 minutes and the twist really came out of nowhere and I loved it, BUT (again in the right hands) this is something that could be turned into a 90-100 minute movie (not now because everyone would know the twist) but had this been a full length film instead of a short to begin with I think it could have been the next "The Sith Sense" caliber movie. not sure if you have seen this but if you haven't I would love to hear what you think of it, the film is less then 7 minutes (if you do not count credits) and I think it is equally Brilliant. Let me know what you think of it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/naPclqGihrCHmKc

Psychological horror over jumpscares every single day. Jumpscares are a cheap easy way out to get the viewer to be afraid. Not impressive at all. This is the good type of writing that really makes horror. It's not about the quick spooks, it's about terrifying the viewer so much to the point that they're genuinely affected and afraid. This was incredible.

I love this. The reborn doll trend has led to multiple tales of women treating the doll like it's the actual child instead of moving on and accepting that the kid is gone. I love the idea of making a sequel where a child is alive, but the parents can't handle that their child isn't a naive baby anymore. They cling to the doll for so long that they don't notice their real child growing up, moving away, and forming a life without them. By the time they realize that the doll isn't real, they're old, their true child is past middle age, and they die with only the doll to comfort them.

What did the ending signify? That all three are dolls?

He created the doll of his wife out of grief and guilt because he hid the doll of their son from her. Since she appeared to have spent more time with the doll than warned, it was like losing her son again, which led to her suicide. At the end there were two timers, but one was broken which was probably the one she had for the doll of their son.
