This makes me so sad, and its so true. I realized exactly what I was watching when the woman was being shot with the captive bolt gun and then the line up of women hooked up to the milk pumps. All the more tragic knowing how much cows mourn being separated from their calves. I remember staying on a farm and hearing the cows moo through the day and night and when I asked why they sounded the way they did, I was told their calves were moved to a different field and they were calling for them.

This is hideously dark. I love horror, and not too much gets at me, but for this whole video my guts felt like they where up in my chest. The all-out acting makes it disturbingly real, and the texture of the room and overall building has this meaty, butcherhouse vibe. And the baby... oh man. Unlike with slasher movies, you wind up with a true sense of wanting the victim characters to survive, to see them overcome the odds, and you feel the stakes on the air like the stench that must have been in that building. Between the sheer impact of it all and the dawning realization of the cause behind the plot, this is as unsettling as it is thought-provoking. It isn't just horribleness for the sake of it, and for that reason, it is truly, brutally, horror. Bravo, Melanie Light, you are a true master of the genre.

This speaks a lot of the treatment of cows and how we get milk. Milk doesn’t come out of nowhere and the mother cow must constantly be impregnated in order to produce the milk. Most baby males are taken to slaughter while females will be kept to the minimal age of breeding (imagine a 13yr old pregnant). When free to breed seasonally and to care for and nurture their children, female cows live 2x more than those raised for milk. It’s the sad truth...why do we need milk anyways? We are the only animal that continues to do so until adulthood. In fact, multiple studies have shown that drinking too much milk has a high likely hood of resulting in arthritis. I believe a great solution to this is to allow female cows to produce milk on their own leisure. We can cultivate some but not all, leaving some for the babies. There will be less milk in the world, but we really don’t need all that milk. Humans would actually benefit from drinking less of it. Edit: Also, with all the torture we put cows into, most milk is naught out by the government...meaning the majority of milk isn’t naught and consumed by the people. Also, what does the govt do with all the milk they buy? Throw it out. So yes. Cows suffer for an over production of milk. Baby calf’s suffer for nothing. It kinda sucks but oh wells right?

This was mostly about cows. This is the exact treatment cows are given in these industries. Boy is killed for veal after few months because they cannot produce milk. And the female cows are eventually going to slaughter houses at the end so it doesn't really matter because even when you're a female you will still be killed just because you cannot produce milk after being Impregnated again and again according to their demands. I've found that, in the past, there have been instances of some dairy farms slaughtering only the male calves after birth. But there are laws prohibiting this practice and most farms don't do this anyway because it is not profitable. Dairy farms also deal with the supply of meat so it isn't financially viable to simply toss profit potential in the trash. I grew up on a farm (granted a small family one) and good steers (neutered male cattle) can fetch around $15-$200 per one hundred pounds in just my small rural area. Most dairy farms have hundreds of these calves so they'd be losing thousands of dollars if they just killed em on the spot. I imagine the dairies that did slaughter newborns were small and not financially stable, the calves may have had problems with them, and/or stock market prices made it an unprofitable investment. Still not good reasons, but people can be lazy and cruel vs putting in the effort to do the right thing. Overall I still don't think the industry as a whole practice this type of slaughter, just a few assholes making a horrible scene.

not accurate though, if this was (at least by uk standards) the women would have lots of space, lots of outdoor time, they'd be fed high-quality food and receive the best care. dairy farms are not evil, cows are artificially inseminated, but its often safer and for good reason, cows while they do miss their calves, they arent forever hung up on them and are usually over it within a few days. on top of that, even if they were left with their calves, cows produce almost three times the amount of milk needed to feed it due to selective breeding. and if they dont get milked they get infections and can die. they are not people. its clear y'all have grown up in the city.

Maniac Zombie Maniac Zombie If you get the chance I recommend you watch the documentary ‘land of hope and glory’ it’s an insight into the UK animal farming practices and learn the truth about the industry rather than what you’ve been falsely told and led to believe. Let me know if you do watch it and what you think... would be interesting to know if you still have the same view. There was a lot I’ve learned over the years on fact and independent studies rather than tradition and what I’ve been told to believe. However we are all different with our own beliefs. I just personally choose not to contribute to the suffering of another being, especially when there is zero need for dairy. We are the only species to drink another species breast milk. Breast milk is for that animals baby no different to my breast milk belonging to my baby. I just think the life of another is more important than a moment of taste when there are many other alternatives to milk out there. Also the countries with the highest amounts of osteoporos are also the ones who drink to most dairy. Dairy is one of the most common allergies/intolerances especially in children... so this also tells me we shouldn’t be drinking it. All I know is if these animals in the meat, egg & dairy industry spoke a language we understood, I am pretty sure the majority of people in this world would no longer consume these products because we would then understand their suffering... just something to think about. I actually appreciate the concept of this video. Showing the process of where most dairy comes from through actual woman and not cows. It really opens your eyes to how horrible they treat those cows. (I am currently becoming a vegetarian and have a plan to become a vegan after) Yes I am aware that there are humane dairy farms where they treat the cows nicely and take care of them correctly but there are still a lot of places still do this

Even the ones that treat the 'nicely' still have the same function of dairy farming: forcibly impregnate then remove the offspring so the milk can be collected. Female offspring go into the same cycle, male offspring get butchered. Milk as much as physically possible. Repeat until the cow is no longer commercially viable. Kill.

Sarah Cullen yes I am aware of that but I knew that someone would attack me if I didn’t mention “humane” dairy farms and honestly I didn’t want to get into a whole debate about that. But I do not believe that “humane dairy farms” are humane. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Vegan? Do you know how many innocent animals die to start and maintain a soy bean farm for all you humane meat substitutes? How much natural habitat is destroyed by the increasing demand for alternative protien like that? How cute does an animal have to be before you start to care?
