@@jerembradshaw5982 This is one we get a lot! And to be fair, the comparisons are inevitable - although Joseph and I wrote the script and devised the period-appropriate black and white visual language way back in the Autumn of 2019, and didn't see The Lighthouse until we'd already secured funding. We’re both great fans of Robert Eggers' work though, and if anything it was The Witch which influenced our continued love of regional period dialogue!

I see an echo in this incredible film of what's happening in our world, where people can't fit in, and end up burned by change. Truly an amazing performance by the actors and a great story! Much appreciated!

Fantastic work on this mixing old with the new meaning electricity & the old ways . Awesome & atmospheric as hell . I could get the jist of what he was saying well enough to see what was going on & what may happen if he caved in to what he knew for him was the right way to go . Stunning visuals on the entity haunting him & all the outdoors film work was perfect. He held his ground as he knew it was the only thing left for him & he was not going to give in to either the new company policies nor the entity . Very cool flame scene at the stories end , i felt the pain he was going thru as i am not a fan of change . I know a bit of irish Folklore so i get the title Lamplighter & though i have not read any Robert Louis Stevenson of late i am familiar with his story of The Lamplighter . Great work by everyone here on one of the best shorts I've seen on all the Alter & other channels that carry on with these great & scary stories. This one hit the jACKPOT & there's no amount of gorey & violent stuff that can come close to these types of true scary tales. I got that funny felling next time the lamp needs a new bulb whoever is the one to change it is in for one hell of a surprise . Again super job on this gem. Just my opinion here but please don't change a thing on this it's not that hard to figure out what he says & i though it a great idea to do the subtitles as you did. 🔥

I thought that was Scots! Perfect way to immediately associate the character with "the old ways" and the electric company man not speaking it makes them noticeable rivals from their first words to each other. And for what it's worth, this American didn't have any trouble understanding him.

Everything about this film was truly magnificent - the text, the acting and authenticity of the scenery, language used and the captions. I don't normally find captions one of the finest qualities of a film, but in this case instead of the usual standard contemporary US or British English, really reflected the Leerie's authentic Scottish Gaelic accent of a man of his time.

There's something about his confrontation with her that keeps niggling my brain. The way she echoes back his words about being haunted.... I don't know if this was the creator's intent, but it makes me wonder if she's a reflection of someone in the future who is seeing a reflection of him, or his spirit, in the park. Especially given what happens at the end, I could see him still haunting the place. Even without that interpretation, there's something about the past and the future staring each other in the face and saying "I have no time to be haunted by you" is so eerie and also kinda feels like a lesson in living - we can't be "haunted" by the past, or by what the future may bring, because that way lies our own destruction.

Wow, that was really great, guys. The story is kinda familiar -- traditionalist vs the new technology, as it were -- but I love how you guys incorporated local folklore into it. Absolutely blown away by the acting, especially Ian as the leerie (which I assume is what lamplighters were once known as). Man's presence was so magnetic that I couldn't look away until his final sad exit. Top marks to all of you, but especially him. 👏👏👏👏

It’s old man who is a lamp lighter using gas light. That was a job he probably had for decades. Not a learned man, that’s all that he knows. So one day a man comes along with a new invention. Electricity. He will no longer be using gas to light the lamps. Like an old man who has work manual job is entire life, and then computers take over his job he no longer understand the world, and fears will become useless. He is scared of change and he doesn’t have the mentality to understand the new technology. Isolated, I am feeling useless he ends up, taking his own life. Ironically, using gas to light himself. Final act as a lamplighter. Himself.
