Horror Show - The Importance of Lori Meyers in Night in the Woods

Lori and Germ constantly fight for the top spot on my list of favorite secondary characters. It basically comes down to whichever of the two is on-screen at the time. I never fail to appreciate the irony of Lori being a mouse and Mae being a cat. For a character with such relatively little screen time Lori is developed a hell of a lot, further testament to how good the writing in this game was.

The fact that Lori is a mouse and Mae is a cat really is super ironic, especially given the type of mentoring friendship they have! And you're absolutely right, they really do develop her incredibly well despite the short amount of time we spend with her!

I love Lori because I see myself in her. I was the weird lonely kid growing up, and would often escape outside to avoid the screaming matches. Watching Mae act like an older sibling to Lori was healing in a way

I'm sure your not along in seeing yourself in Lori - I think that's a big reason why she's got such a big fanbase. I really loved the older sibling routine myself - it was so cool to see that side of Mae!

I feel like Mae probably heard people while she was KOed from the fall, heard Lori and everyone else to at least build up a framework from that dream. It's also possible at that moment it couldve been a third person perspective on the incident, especially because it was at an extremelylow point in the story and some actual good words from Mae's friends and family wouldve been good to build her back up before the finale rather than being a dream. Either way Lori's a good kid in a bad place and its nice to see that Mae had an impact on someone despite all her problems

That's a great theory - both of those explanations are definitely possible! At some point, I'll have to do a deep dive on on those dreams at the end and all the others. It's certainly one of the more nebulous parts of the game and very open to interpretation. I'm 100% with you on Lori - it's really amazing to see Mae help her so much even though she has so much going on in her own life

Amazing video! ❤ I always saw Lori as a younger version of Mae in a way. Where Mae didn't have someone older to help guide her through her strange thoughts or just validating her feelings, she becomes that for Lori. Just being that supportive older friend who's been in a somewhat confusing situation/feelings and having to navigate through them. In all I'm glad they can be there for each other. Can't wait for the next video!!! Great Job!

It'd be interesting to see how Mae would've turned out if she'd had someone to fulfill that role for her when she was younger. I'm sure she wishes she had someone like that herself, which is probably why she takes so much pride in supporting Lori throughout the game. I can't wait to get to work on the next video as well! Lori is actually named after a song of the same name! By the band NOFX. It's a punk song, fitting with Gregg and Mae, but not fitting for Lori I suppose. Gregg got me to wear a leather jacket and Lori got me into punk music! I cannot express how much this game has changed my life Also I hope we get a video about selmers. She's so interesting and I totally love her

I always got the impression that Lori also heard the singing of the Black Goat, in one of the conversations she said something about always having weird thoughts and wanting to become a monster. Not sure if the Black Goat makes people into outsiders and weirdos or if that’s just who are already most perceptive to it. Then again, Lori’s issues could also just be regular mental health problems and\or her way of coping with her home life, unrelated to the supernatural elements of the game.

That's a great observation, you might be onto something there! I never thought of it that way, but it totally could be the Black Goats influence. Or, as pointed out, it might just be a mental health thing. That's part of the beauty of this game - you really can interpret it either way!

When it comes down to the people who Mae considers friends, I think she sees the most of herself in Lori. She has weird thoughts, maybe similar mental issues, she's kind of an outcast, she seems to enjoy a lot of the same things. Except Lori is alone. And I think Mae subconsciously tries to protect Lori from becoming another Mae - an anti-social screw-up lost in a world that's too big for her (at least that's how Mae views herself). Also I just recently discovered your channel so I'm leaving comments on these videos completely out of order. D:

No worries, that happened to me too on my first playthrough, I also made some big mistakes in managing my health haha. I do find it a bit funny how NitW deals with a lot of heavy topics. But, when it comes to shreks... it gets extremely awkward about it. As if it either *wanted* to go deeper, as is quite heavily implied with some scenes. But panicked and scensored everything. Or that they started adding them... didn't know what to do, and just kinda... waddled around it. Like, the vlrus part implies a lot of things. But... doesn't go deeper. And with Bea at the graveyard... it kinda just is extremely depressing and reveals she was left cold turkey the one time she tried. It's like the devs *wanted* to go more in detail, but were too scared to get a rating.

Sort've! Scott Benson said in a few interviews that he knew what NITW 2 would be like, but had no plans to start work on it for a while. Unfortunately, in light of his condition, it's unlikely to ever happen.

Honestly, during the time between my discovery of Night in the Woods - while I was still studying my second course in Psychology - and the news that Alec Holowka had passed away, I had dreamed that there ought to be a sequel where Lori AND Germ got promoted to main characters as well. 🐭🦜
