Riding is to seduce horses to perform without pain or fear of pain experienced before. Riding is not forcing a horse by pain or fear of pain to perform. But this is usually done in equestrian sports today. Equestrians are still living in the 19 th century with animal cruelty, slavery, colonialism, apartheid, and whip and thrashing education in schools. The believe they have the right and the duty to generate pain to their horses to force them into submission. This girl is exactly doing this. She is one of the equestrians, who love their horses. I am sure that she is behaving as she was told to behave. I am sure that the poor horse has hairline cracks in the jaw under x-rays as 70 % of all riding horses and damaged teeth as well as 30 % of all riding horses. But she thinks that the horse is stubborn and must be treated like that. Most riders with spurs, crops, and metal bits are applying the same method: Generating pain or the fear of pain experienced before by showing a crop. This is no riding, but metal bits, spurs, whips, crops were invented to create pain to horses. And as we can see in the video: They are doing it. The slap on the head of the horse is extremely cruel, too. She must have been informed to slap there. That is the most pain sensitive spot outside the mouth of a horse. Some hundred years ago the horse "trainers" were beating their horses there with cudgels. There are no good kicks and bad kicks with spurs. The good kicks of "fine riding" are remembering horses of the type of kicks shown in this video. Christine Wels, a former member (until a deadly hoofkick into her face) of the German national dressage team at international events (placed 9th), was found guilty by a video proof of the German police of having whipped the same horse 465 times within the same 30 minutes. She is kicking like the champions, she is sawing like the champions, she is practising LDR as the champions, she is using martingales as the champions. She can't be wrong, because she is doing everything like them. The tragedy is that it is the truth. "Totitlas" failed completely at his last event, because he was in panic because of a mistake, in panic, what would happen because of the mistake. He was never allowed to have an average day or even a week day.

No matter what has happened to you, you DO NOT take it out on a poor and innocent animal who has absolutely nothing to do with it!! Animals can not understand why you're upset, usually all the animals just want to please people; it's the people who make animals "evil" (which this horse wasn't though). This was terrible to watch, the girl is pulling the rains which makes the horse want to stop or go backwards to escape the pain, but at the same time she's banging the horse with her boots to make him go forward; what can the poor horse do. :( I hope this horse has gotten a better place to stay and a better rider to ride him! :'(

I have been riding horse since I was a kid and I have never seen a more ignorant and selfish rider. It is obvious for all to see that she is clearly mistreating this horse. The startling thing is the horse isn't underweight, the horse is well groomed but it's rider just has no emotional connection to her horse. She pulls on the reins ( which the horse interprets a sign to stop) but at the same time she ruthlessly kicks it in the flanks ( which is urging the horse to move) and she wonders why the horse is confused and misbehaving- she is not giving clear instructions and her use of the reins to whip the horse are serving only to increase the friction between horse and rider. This rider should not be allowed the pleasure of be able to ride a horse.

This child has not been taught how to ride properly. Part of it is how she has been taught. Why is a standing martingale being used, and why is the bit so high in the mouth? The horse is clearly in pain and if he wasn't such a good tempered horse, he'd have bucked her off long before. Where is the instructor? This poor horse wants to do what the girl is asking, but is confused because her instructions are conflicting. It's not necessarily because the child is being a spoiled brat, as she probably doesn't know any better, but she is deliberately sawing at his mouth (and using a severe bit) and has been taught this way. I hope that somebody reported this abuse. There is nothing worse than ignorance and a bad temper being blamed on the horse. It's not that's he's not listening. The child is kicking him on, but holding him back on his mouth. That's like saying "Go forward, now stop!" If you were a horse, wouldn't this be confusing to you?

The nose band is way to tight, on 0:40 a person tells her to yank on him. She's yanking on his mouth, she goes way to fast to a jump, can't be patient. She kicks the horse way to hard I'm glad she isn't using Spurs. She uses draw reins which I'm not a fan off but everyone has their opinion. I’ve seen this video countless times over the years and there’s two things that seriously annoy me. First thing is her reins. I don’t get how she can have her reins so ridiculously short and have the audacity to blame the horse. There’s no wonder he was ‘misbehaving’ and how he didn’t make the jumps at the end. I just don’t get it. Second is the people watching. Why on earth are they not correcting her? eshnic the girl in the video has anger problems. She was taking it out on the horse because her parents were divorcing. She was banned from horses for a while and the owners took Red (horse) back. She got help for her anger management and was told if she ever hurt another horse she'd never be around one she's currently riding a grey pony at a riding school under close supervision. Although what she did does not excuse her behaviour and the people watching/recording her should of said something to her instead of standing by and let her do this to the horse. The riding school have also told her if she's hurts as much as a hair on a horse she'll never be allowed to ride nor be near another horse (her parents agreed)

You are using 3 ring gag bit!!!! When u pull on the reins using this bit it puts pressure on the poll (the top of the head between the ears) this bit needs calm gentle hands so stop yanking at the reins when u get in a huff also sea sawing the reins is a false outline and ur just confusing the horse. The horse should be springy and tracking up (back foot follows in front foot track) your reins are two tight and yours hands should be relaxed and closer to the wither of the horse rather than than half way up the neck. You clearly need to calm down, stop shouting at the horse and relax. Horses can sense and feel every movement and emotion when ur in the saddle, so if you are tense the horse will also. Changing to a snaffle bit is a good move unless u want to ruin your horses mouth.

The girl who was videoing uploaded the video without Becky's permission. This was about 5 and a half years ago now, and the girl riding doesn't have horses now as far as I'm aware. She was young at the time and I've seen many a young rider do the same thing when things don't go the way they want with their horses. But no, that doesn't make it right what she did. I am amazed that this horse didn't go vertical with all that pressure on his poll and repeatedly being jabbed in his mouth he must have been confused poor thing. I'm glad he went back to his original owner and hope she hadn't done too much damage. I thought some of your comments were harsh and some of the language unecessary though as she is a child BUT I would not be happy if my current sharer treated my horse like this (I know she never would) Who put all these gadgets on the horse? The owner or Becky? I think the owner should take some responsibility that they gave their horse to this child who was clearly too novice to handle him. It's not easy but I found one of my sharer's rough handling my pony (who was only 5) behind my back and sent her packing. I took responsibility though because it was my choice to let her ride him. It's easy to call names and if this was an adult I might be joining in but this amount of abuse towards Becky is bullying. How old is she? Yes the horse deserves a better rider but her friend pointed out she doesn't ride any more. I think she has leaned her lesson. What good does swearing and name calling do?

This video was found on my news feed on Facebook. The poor horse who is so tolerant of your abuse. You cannot ride. You don't listen. You have shocking hands and no seat. I suggest you go back to basics. Ditch the draw reins and any other gadgets you may have in your tack room. Go to a classical instructor who will rip you to pieces and will make you learn to ride the correct way. No horse deserves to have you on board and you are lucky you haven't been dumped on the ground which is where you belong.

why is she shouting at it? she is leaning forward, digging her heels Into its sides and has her reins way too short. if my riding instructor saw her doing that she would get her off the horse and the yard. if ANYONE else was riding the poor thing, even if they didnt know how to ride, I'm positive it would be completely safe. things like this make me cry. its horrible and just no.. dont do it.

If my daughter EVER tries to ride like this, I'll knock her right off the horse. No excuse. She is cruel, and that can't be taught out. She needs to never touch a horse again. I hope she eventually feels the shame from her abusive actions. Disgusting, and disgusting that her instructor let her do this.

What does she think she is teaching? the horse is in pain, and her misunderstanding leads to more pain. this should be reversed, horses are much better teachers then humans.

In my opinion, and it is just that, this is a poorly trained rider using the tools she has been given. In the past riders were told to circle badly behaved horses, they were told to 'niggle' the bit to get them in an outline and if that didn't work, apply more pressure and bigger movements - which becomes a sawing motion. There is an old school trainer out of sight that is very responsible here. When the girl's instructions to the horse don't work and no help is forthcoming from the people with her, she gets frustrated and takes it out on the horse. That's wrong, but no one is telling her it's wrong or helping her. If she is reading this, please get in touch. I'd love to help you out and give you a few pointers. You have a really genuine horse and you have the potential to be brilliant. You just need to take a deep breath, calm down and figure out what you are telling your horse to do and why it's not working. Look up Jody Hartstone on You tube, she does equitation science and has lots of quick short videos so you can learn one thing at a time - I found it really helpful! And, she does indeed have a video about how to get a horse on the bit/into an outline. Try to get some advice om the tack you are using, it doesn't look well fitted and that's not helping at all. (Saddle to far forward, bit too high, martingales too short, etc) The gadgets / bits being used are very harsh on the horse, have a look on the internet about what they do and why they are used and decide if you really need them or if you can get the same results from more practice and a slower progression/improvement. This girl is not evil, she's at her wits end and is getting no help. Sadly it's the horse taking the brunt of it, but if she were really abusing the horse intentionally and maliciously, don't you think she'd have a whip? I blame the people putting her in that situation and not giving her the tools she needs to be successful.

She’s continuously kicking the horse while pulling at its mouth. Obviously the horse isn’t going to move! She’s asking it to do two different things at the same time! She’s asking it to go forward and stop at the same time, that’s why it keeps going backwards and putting its head up. I’m sure that all she needed to do was give the horse more rein and give it a squeeze, when I do that my horse always responds positively. Pulling at the reins only puts the horse in more pain and discomfort, and it doesn’t know what to do. Also, why the constant yelling at the horse? Just making the horse more scared and confused!

Poor horse, poor girl. I bet that her parents are shouting at her every day. She is abusing the horse as she is being abused by her parents. I don't know, who of both of them deserves more empathy. A woman's kindness is recognized by how she treats her animals. (Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg, 924 - 993) How sick are people, who are abusing animals by generating pain just for fun? I cannot imagine that her behaviour is not known in her riding club. She needs advice and correction.
