I have just started riding a six year old gelding. He was supposed to be ridden properly before but he really doesn't listen to my leg aids. I don't think he understands them at all because however much I kick or squeeze him on he doesn't go forward. He only seems to walk on when someone leads him. Any advice?

hi there... i have a 13 year old gelding and i've had him for 1 year. he is amazing to ride but, one day i fell off him and i didn't ride him for 1 week, then i went to a show with him and we couldn't get him on the float so then i couldn't do the show... but my sister did the show and we manged to get him back on the float to take him home. but a couple weeks later he started playing up... he was doing this: i got on him and i rode him to the show jumping arena, when i got there, he started to dig hes legs into the sand, then he would back up and not go forward and kick out and try to rear... then he will turn hes head one way and put hes head up high, then if i tell him to go forward he will try bite my foot and pin hes ears back, (sometimes). then when i tack him up he sometimes trys to bite me, (he never done that before). my sister was walking beside him and he will kinda go... (including when i was on him)... what do i do?????? he is very flighty and spooky, hes 16.1hh, x-race horse and x-school horse, any advice?? my name is Summer and my horses name is Jupiter... have a great day!

Have you had his back checked for injury? Perhaps when you fell off he tweaked something and is sore? I'm wondering about soreness due to him being grouchy when you saddle him. In my experience, it's rare for a horse to get grouchy at saddling for any other reason besides something hurts. Either a saddle fit issue or, like I said, they've tweaked something and are sore. Perhaps call out an equine chiropractor?

Ok this was what I was wondering about. I bought an 18 year old mare from a stalk yard and ive been working with this little mare for a month or so. Anyways I sit on her and she stands there and ive never had a horse do that so it confused me As well. She pins her ears and swishes her tail when I turn her and I'm bitless I dont do bits.

My gelding uses to do that he might not need a kick try a little squeeze and if he doesn't listen do it a little harder and so on if he doesn't listen to that a tiny kick not a big one but barely kick him and see how that helps

My 6 year old gelding is very green and whem I'm trying to motivate him to move forward he pull back his ears and rears on his hind legs. What can I do to motivate him to move forward without bucking me off?

Jane Benhover my 6 year old Tennessee walker is doing the same thing. i cant seem to figure it out. when i first got him he would move off leg pressure or a cluck. now he wont move, when i start to bump him with my legs he pins his ears and acts like he wants to rear. i cant figure it out

I am sorry TJ! It is normal volume on my computer. I imagine you checked the volume on the computer and on the the KZbin video. You might try watching it on my blog. It might have a different volume setting...maybe? I just tried to post the link, but You tube won't let me post a link here in the comment so I posted it in the video description. I hope the volume works.

Shawna Karrasch I have a horse that I just got from my grandparents and the only time I have ridden him, is without a saddle. He is a little stubborn but I feel as if I can get him used to riding again he would be an amazing trail horse. I was just wondering how I could ease him back into riding with a saddle and where I should start.

That is a dangerous horse. If he refuses to move forward and will rear when asked, either send him to a reputable trainer or humanly put him down before he seriously hurts you or worst.
