The Harlequin and Chimera traits just mean that the mane or tail take on either the color of the paint or the color of the pattern the horse already has.

That is because the Event Worlds are private and not public. The only way to join a friend is to join a private server from the main world and both use the teleporter in the private server to the Event World.
