Horse neck rope knot, NOT a hangman's noose!

It's very scary that a number of KZbin sites have videos telling horse owners how to do the 'parade' or 'cavalry' knot BUT many of these show people how to strangle and kill their beloved horses by incorrectly instructing them on tying what is a hangman's noose. Some of the people who show the incorrect knot are even saying the wrong knot is better because you can slide it up and down. Yes, even when they demonstrate how the knot tightens around the horse's neck they are not waking up to the fact that the noose could actually kill their horse. Scary. THIS is how to tie the knot correctly as per the Australian Light Horse manual of 1910 and 1914. And for goodness sake, if you ever see a hangman's knot on a horse, politely point the fact out to the owner. Cheers cobbers.

We can see that You & the Mrs are true equestrians with a fierce passion for animal welfare & the obscure bit of information about the horses eating their ropes is the kind of thing I love to learn about.

Good on you Steve. Members of the LHR were soldiers of course but they were genuine and A-grade horsemen as well. It is only now that I wish I had asked my own grandfather, a member of the 9LHR more about his life and times in the Regiment. I understand his father (my great grandfather) was a Blacksmith, so am convinced that those of that era well and truly knew what they were about when it came to horses and horsemanship. Keep up the good work - it is all part of our heritage.

Hey steve. This is why i love your channel. Over the short time i have known you. You have shown me and all of us how much you care about historical authenticity And your horses. If the people who watched that other video. And the person who made that other video. truly cared about historical authenticity and most importantly their own horses life and health. They would instantly pull that video and redo it. the right way. In this situation I don't think it's nitpicking. I see it as a hazard that could result in a horse's injury or even death. Its frustrating sometimes seeing the so-called experts because of there channel size. Have no idea what there talking about. And they grow fast and spread wrong information. Now the real experts will have to spend years just reversing the damage of just one so-called expert did. Cheers brother if you decide you want to leave a comment on that video let me know I'll back you up and leave a comment as well.

@@CodyandSteveDownUnder no problem. Years ago there was a youtuber that had a extremely large following. he did DIY projects. He did a DIY air conditioning using a ice cooler, a fan, and ice . He thought it was a great idea to use dry ice instead of regular ice. Thinking that it would be much colder and no water to deal with. What he didn't realize is dry ice being carbon dioxide if somebody made his air-conditioning and used it in a small room they could suffocate to death. Me this is a great example of how people could be hurt by taking the advice of somebody who really doesn't know what they're doing. And I think the best route to criticize this man's video. ensure him this is not an attack on him as a person. Just that he's video puts horses in danger. Cheers

@@snappers_antique_firearms what makes this worse is - dare I say it - the video was made by a young-ish woman ... I hate to say this but a man cannot put anything remotely critical even if it is constructive, on a horse woman's video, such a foolish man would unleash a sh.t storm of female backlash ... and even now I have said too much .....

Wow... the tiny things I didn't need to know, but glad I do now know! Thanks Sarge! Question : Why would you re-tie it? Why not just keep the knot and loop it over the horses neck ...like most people do with neck-ties....
@CodyandSteveDownUnder
@CodyandSteveDownUnder 2 жыл бұрын
see, see, always an excellent question that makes me go "D'oh! why didn't I put that in the darn video!!!" you have to constantly untie it as it is the tether rope, and the lead rope.... you can lead without untying usually - that's what I do - but when it came to tethering the horse to the horse line for tucker, sleep, waiting waiting waiting , then it had to be untied ... a bloody excellent question cobber and it should have been in the bloody video .... cheers digger
