love your videos Violet, very helpful and please ignore the trolls who argue and make unkind comments, you are doing a great job by letting people know that they can do most basic hoof care by themselves, so keep the videos coming .

Don't most people have farriers? If not I hope anyone trimming their horse, learns from an expert.

Not everyone has access to a skilled farrier/barefoot hoof trimmer in their area. Most farriers do not know how to good a barefoot trim, which is very different from a trim for shoes AND most horse owners do now know what to look for and have to go on blind faith that the person trimming their horse’s hooves is doing a good job. It’s a valuable skill for a horse owner to at least be able to recognize a good trim and it is the first step in learning to trim their own horse’s hooves if that’s what they want to do.

@@equine2020 Farriers are not experts in barefoot trimming. I do agree with you and hope anyone who wants to trim their own horse learns from a skilled, professional barefoot hoof trimmer.

@@hoovesbyviolet You apparently have incompetent farriers. I know the ones who do barefoot trimming. Quite well. I've been with horses since 5yrs old years old. Yes, have told the ignorant ones, don't come back.

@@equine2020 The principles and beliefs behind shoes and barefoot are so far apart. I would never trust any farrier to give my horses a barefoot trim because they are willing to put shoes on a horse (which is inherently harmful to the hoofs natural function). Any horse person who has not studied Pete Ramey and Jamie Jackson should not be speaking on hoof health, mechanics and barefoot. Unfortunately the majority of farriers do not even know who they are. I understand this is not a popular option, which is unfortunate for the horses as they are the ones who suffer.
