"losing control of the thing you love". -That line really got to me. Horses are amazing creatures, our friends, and we owe so much to them. Without horses we could possibly not be where we are today. The bonds with horses (as, not only told through history, but live all around us) are far stronger because it's an animal that loves and trusts you. You're essentially planning that animals life for him/her, and the thought of your horse getting hurt is painful. They're not machines. A quick fix doesn't exist. Discarding it and getting a new one means you're discarding a creatures only life he/she gets. Great video. Keep up your excellent work.

This is just one side of it. That feeling we get when we overcome that feared obstacle, that one really high jump that was so intimidating. Or that pond your horse would not cross because he needed your confidence to push him on. Or that one time when your galloping. And the sun is setting and you feel so close to the sky and the heavens that you can feel god. Think it's just a sport now? It's more than just a sport. Riding is freedom.

It's not worth losing a friend to something you disagree on. It might be infuriating to see that others make a fool of the sport, it's what they don't realize about it. They don't see the real side to it. What they don't see is the side that makes equestrians, equestrians. They don't understand what we do that makes it a sport. If we lose friends because of this reason, what's the point of even having friends. I don't call someone who picks on what I love and do a friend. Yet losing one is even worse. Even worse then arguing about what you love and they don't.

Even the 10's of thousands who care for their horses as they are family? Growing up I put 2 hours per day into caring for my pony and then my horse. I took lessons just long enough to learn how to respectfully ride, stay on and in control of myself and to handle obstacles on the trail. After that (2-3 summers) I rode bareback with a bitless bridle every evening during the school week and 1/2 the day Saturday and Sunday. Over the summer I rode early in the morning before most of my friends were up and late in the evening when many were attending parties so my horse would get the attention she needed, but not be out in the heat of the day. Sometimes we were not going anywhere, but just enjoying the scenery while she grazed. If my horse felt abused she would not have let me lay down on her back while she grazed and I had no means of controlling her (no bridle/saddle). She would not have excitedly wickered at me each day when I went out for morning and evening chores/rides, and enthusiastically run to me when I immediately went to her pasture upon returning from family vacations. She would not have followed me around the unfenced parts of our property or when I dismounted during trail rides to take a break. And for those who do show. They have horses who live to perform. Some horses love to perform. They love the challenge of obstacles. Mine did not as I did not. My daughter now rides a lesson pony who is difficult to ride and can be cantankerous during lessons, but is a dream during shows. Give him an audience and he will perform - he even poses for pictures. He is not difficult because she abuses him, he is difficult because he is a 700 lb animal with a mind of his own that does not see the point in lessons when he already knows how to perform.

@@emmalandes7231 What r u gonna do? "Smack the living crap outta me". I'm not afraid of a horseriding girl, so come on then. Horse riding is just for pretend-sporters, who want to tell everyone that they do a sport (which they dont). Horse riding is not exhausting at all, if you think that it is, then compare the sweat on you after riding for 5 hours, and someone playing basketball for 5 hours. It isnt a real sport, get over it!
@emmalandes72315 жыл бұрын
ÇųŹē Ŕèvėñģĕ u should be afraid, we lug around hay bales that weigh a lot like they are nothing and we boss around an animal with a mind of its own that weighs more than 10x more than us like they are nothing. Yes it is extremely exhausting, every lesson by the end of it we are all sweaty, tired, and aching and it’s worse in the summertime when it’s 100 degrees out every day. Basketball players get breaks in practice for water and stuff but in horse back riding u are constantly working and u don’t get a break other than to walk a lap around the arena which isn’t even rlly a break bc u still have to work even when u are just walking. It’s physically taxing, and explain its not hard to my leg and arm muscles. I mean fr is it that hard to use ur brain to think “how easy is it rlly trying to control an animal that almost weighs a literal ton that has a mind of its own and try anything at any moment?” Imagine what I told to do but the chair is moving at almost 45mph and u have to keep it under control, tell it where to go, keep it going, remember a coarse or pattern, pay attention to ur surroundings, tell it to slow down or go faster, think how u are going to ride a particular thing, and that’s not even all that goes through ur mind a once. And that is still not even the half of what riding actually is. Go be ignorant somewhere else. Oh and just for the compare the sweat, we all look like we just took a shower, and that’s not even an exaggeration, all our bodies our wet and there is sweat stain after sweat stain on everyone and not to mention we don’t ride in shorts, we are in pants and thick boots in 100 degree weather in the summer and in the winter it’s much different either. We are “wannabes” ur just jealous that ur sport isn’t the olympics like ours is. And just another thing, I’ve done “real sports” (bc according to ur thinking and no research or experience whatsoever) all my life, swim, gymnastics, cheer, soccer, dance, and basketball and horseback riding is harder and more exhausting than all of those.

I appreciate it when people make videos like theses. Its frustrating to have people mock or critisize you by saying it's not a sport, even if we train for hours a day, not only on the horse, but off too.The emotional pain and tiredness we feel, the falls that sometimes scars us for life or takes lifes. It's truly dissapointing, the horse does everything, witch again is not true. If it's not a sport why do people rank it as one of the hardest sports in the olympics, and dangerous sport in general. One day everyone will realize what we do, the effort time and patience we have with the pain we endure and our horses.

You say it's easy to ride a horse at 60 kilometers an hour, which weighs half a ton, while you have ladders that are way too short really while you're half a meter above your horse's saddle weighing no more than 250 grams while You have over 1 million people looking at you. They have invested money on you, hoping you'll win the victory. You say it's not hard for everyone to stand there. But it is not. You must keep the balance at the same time as you are aware that only a small push can make you fly as a pole through the air and land so hard that you die. You know that only purple tunic can put your horse out of focus and make it run into something, go by and much more. Now that you know this, you can say that it's easy, you can say just what you want, but I've told you the naked truth. The gala sport is not as simple as you think.

@@dio8286 Still doesn't make it a sport, like shot-put because in my eyes a real sport has to be intensive. Horse riding, shot-put, gun shooting ect aren't intensive so in my eyes they aren't a real sport.
@dio82865 жыл бұрын
@@exogort6231 I see where you are coming from. From my point seeing jump offs are very intense and the crowds have a very energetic atmosphere. I personally live for the adrenaline rush I get from them haha. I can see why not everyone thinks it is as thrilling as we do though, as I also think sports like basketball and soccer are boring. Part of it being we also have teams and certain competitors we route for- where I don't know any teams for the sports I stated previously. But considering the athleticism that is required from both parties to compete, I would still label it as a sport.
@exogort62315 жыл бұрын
@@dio8286 I did horse riding for several years so i know what you mean. But i also must say that i never did any big cometitions, mostly local competitions. Horse riding has different sorts like amateur horse riding and dressage horse riding. I would call dressage a sport because it required a good focus and connection between you and your horse. But not everyone does dressage and i think amateur horse driving isn't a sport because the lack of intensity and competition, while soccer is the same for amateurs and pro's except for the league.
@dio82865 жыл бұрын
@@exogort6231 I agree that driving would not be a sport as that is the horse doing the work, but then again we are talking about horseback riding. However, jumping requires just as much connection between horse and rider as in dressage. Considering you are galloping to jumps and have to cue your horse and have it respond within seconds to fix striding and to turn on a dime. There's an obvious difference between hobby riding and competition riding. Still, I stick to it being a sport.

I’ve been riding for nearly ten years now but until now, none of my training was really worth anything. I started at a small riding school about 5 minutes away from me, though I was barely taught to canter while I was there and was sent home when I fell off. Me, a 6 year old child, being sent home after they admitted that the horse wasn’t suitable for me. After that I went to a big school when I was 7 and I learned a lot but the management and instructors were horrible and I really wasn’t happy. Then when I was 10 I moved to my friends yard and had a lot of fun in the year 1/2 I was there, though all the horses were younger than 5 and weren’t schooled, so the whole thing ended up being a huge confidence knock. Now I’m at the same little riding school that I started at, but this time with new owners, i moved last August and I couldn’t be happier! I’m riding with all my friends and am helping them with their new horses as the search continues for my own. I’m so glad I’m here now, after the long, rocky trail I had to achieve what I have today.

i've been hurt when riding before, yes it was my fault but u can't say people who get hurt are horse abusers. If you have been through what i have been through with riding then u would know that just cause u get hurt doesn't mean you are an abuser to horses. my horses still trust me and i trust them with my life. i don't with anyone else apart from my parents with my life. i don't have much muscle but can still control a 16.2hh mare and the size of 5.6f when she could pull me around but cause i work with them they trust me with their lives as much as i do with mine. i disagree with your comment sorry

You're an idiot, people that fall off horses are not animal abusers. It was most likely an accident or a rider error. That also does not mean the horse trusts them less. Please do some research.

My personal opinion is that it is. It’s like any other sport. We try to kick the ball into the net like a team. We try to get football over rack like a team. We get the golf ball into the hole. And it’s all the smae for horses. We try to get over the jump without hitting it or falling off. We try to not any of the 3 barrels. Like if you agree

I love Eilish gang actually speaking from almost 5 years of experience in both of those, they are not harder horseback riding is harder bc in gym and cheer u can’t get crushed by an animal that weighs like 1,600 lbs and I get waaaayyy more sore in horseback riding then I ever got in gym and cheer and it is harder to try to control a 1,600lb animal that doesn’t want to listen to u then do a round off backhand spring back tuck and balance yourself on beam and bars
@iloveeilishgang67675 жыл бұрын
Emma Landes well your talking about all of the easy stuff I’m talking about double fulls on beam and floor and bars is so much harder than controlling a horse because you are literally swinging on a 1 inch stick 🤦♀️

But You seem to be not capable to recognize that many horses shown are exposed to pain. Open Your eyes! 75% of riding horses are showing hairline cracks under x-rays and about 30% have damaged teeth because of "soft" rider's hands.

I hate when people say Equestrian isn’t a sport,They say we just sit there,and I say how about you get on a horse and do it.We are risking our lives,trusting a animal 10x our side,a animal with a mind of its own.You don’t see the practice and the chances we put in our lives for something we love we could die,mean while people still say it’s not a sport,because they see the things on tv that make it look easy cause there good but no it took a long time and a lot of practice to get like that,you don’t see the falls,you don’t see what’s really inside this sport...

I remember when I signed up to horse ride, I said, "When I fall, i'm done." About a year later, I was bucked off, dislocated my hip, and broke my arm. Once I was better, I took no mercy to my pain and got up on the animal I love. People who do football, soccer, tennis, and swimming are given the easy route. We train all day. Hours each week on an animal that could kill us at any moment. Why? For fun. That's a sport.

I used to do a lot of horse riding and was getting pretty good at it too. Then one day, my horse spooked due to a nearby rider being careless with their whip and I completely wasn't expecting it. I was already recovering from an injury, so had no hope of staying on when he bucked and turned. I fell off and broke part of my back. After recovery, I tried to pick it up again, but the mental scarring from the fall and the pain and the thinking "Am I going to survive, or is he going to trample me before I can get up?" left me so that I struggled to even cope with a trot. I was lucky enough to have a very understanding instructor, but my back still causes me pain to this day, and riding made it even worse. I began to think "is all this pain really worth it now that all I can bring myself to do is walk?", so I quit. This is still my biggest regret. I'm now too frightened to even stand in a field with the thing I love most, because every time I look at it that one moment flashes back through my mind. That was the point I thought that my life was over. Equestrian is, in my opinion, by far one of the most demanding sports ever, and not just physically. I miss it like Hell, but I know I'll never sit in a saddle again in my life.
