The position of your leg is vitally important to not only your balance but the consistency of your aids as well. Thank you for watching.

Such helpful tips! I am relearning how to ride as a nearly 50 year old and getting the right leg position is a constant challenge. My riding teacher said exactly the same about heels down - it makes me push my legs forward. Love the back pedalling analogy! Thank you!

OMG congrats for getting back into it. I'm 35 and getting back into it after over 15 years off. I'm SO excited, but anticipating a struggle in terms of my body and being out of riding shape. It is so cool and so encouraging to see other women getting back into it - makes me feel hopeful. All the best, from Canada

This video is GOLD! Turning my heels OUT really helped to turn my leg in. It HELPED everything within my ride. I’m amazed. I’m sure I will feel it tomorrow, but wow. Thank you so much for the tips!

Hello Josie, i want you to know that your videos helped me out SO. MUCH. I watched your seat video and i even told my trainer about your videos and i was able to control my horse with NO rein at all, even quite tight turns! your videos help me improve in almost NO time and it’s effective and correct. The seat clock analogy helped me A lot with understanding what to do eith my seat bones and it helped! thank you so much for doing these videos, i appreciate them so much. I want to be a good rider like you one day. Sincerely, your big fan Koko

"It's a leg aid not a heal aid" that was great!! Never heard that before. So true. I ride Icelandic horses and keep saying its all about the leg, if you are normal sized naturally you can't even touch the horse with your heal (small horsebread). But the riders used to ride bigger horses keep moving their leg to try to get their heel in 🤣 I am going to use that to explain. I just THOUGHT ppl on big horse breeds were using their heels 🙈😆

Loved that expression too. Really works for me. I use my heels all the time which unbalances my seat. So now have to focus on a leg aid which will give me greater stability

Just found you today and have been binge watching all morning! But really loved this video as I’m definitely at fault for knees out due to a bad knee/ tibia fracture right side years ago. It has taken years to desensitize that knee and calf to try to maintain balance. I used to do endurance with Arabs. I now do leisurely trail riding on Tennessee walkers😁. So love this video of some good techniques and reminders to get that proper knee placement. And the reason why I commented on this video was your Rhodesian ridgeback! Ahhh! Love that breed! And my nickname is Rebel 😂. Thanks so much for your videos! And ps- thanks for tip on how to correctly tie rope halter!

I found this one helpful for my stiff hips . I have one leg that lays really well and one that doesn’t My right thigh doesn’t sit as close to my saddle whatever I do. My doctor says it’s due to wear in my hip.

I often get really sore knees and ankles and sometimes find that I am tensing my legs, I would love some advice on what I may be doing wrong!? Thank you for your helpful videos!!
@BasicHorseTraining
@BasicHorseTraining 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharna, without seeing you it is a little hard to give advice specific to you but check these things. If your ankles are sore just check where your weight is on the stirrup iron. Is it even across the ball of your foot or do you have more weight on the inside or the outside. This will mean you are rolling your ankle in or out and will cause pain. I'm just wondering where the pain is in your knees as that could be many things and as for your tense legs - pat yourself on the back for noticing they are tense and then get them to relax. You may need to take a breath in and then as you breath out relax all your muscles from your neck down to your toes. Your tense legs could be that you are trying to keep your balance with them. Our balance comes from our core - and that is a work in progress so don't expect it to be great straight away and the amount of time you can hold it is something that we build on like any other "muscle" strength.

"Heels down" had my weight rolled medially in my boot, ankle jacked towards the horse, toes pointed way out to the side, and pinching knees. My heels appear lower, but I was doing more than I needed to and I had no idea. No one noticed for years. Finally I ended up somewhere that picked apart my position, but I still had to figure out how things were connected because they didn't say anything about that. "Shoulders back" also screwed me up, but I won't go into that. I've got many old habits to break before I can move forward, but without riding time I can only work on it indirectly.

Do Spider & Rebel get turned out together? I would love to see them just being goofy geldings together 😂😂
@BasicHorseTraining
@BasicHorseTraining 3 жыл бұрын
Umm you might not like the answer to this because Spider is quite horse aggressive so they don’t go out together since he hung Rebel up on a gate 😬. They are next to each other and play over the gates. Spider is forever ripping Rebel fly veil off and only yesterday he ripped a strap off Rebels neck rug. He is a little 😈 😆
