Nice that's how it should be. I've seen people with a good bond with their horses that they behave better than a good trained dog. Ride them bareback with no halter , as if they had some remote control. Horsemanship varies with different cultures, beduins believe that it's a sin to castrate a horse and have no problems with their hot stallions, whereas here in the west it's a no no to have a stallion unless for breeding purposes. Mongols and central Asian Turkmen still practice very traditional horsemanship and their horses anticipate their riders expectations without much input. It all depends that how much ones livelihood depends on the horse and how difficult is it to replace the very animal, in terms of love, time and money.

Beautiful videos in The Path of the Horse documentary! I hope we all take heed, for our own benefit and, especially, for the benefit of the horse. I hope I do! Always thought bitless was better and have ridden bitless, and still do sometimes, but trainers are against it. Thank you very much for great advice and documentary!

Saddles are good for the horses back. The center of the saddle does not touch to horses spine witch keeps the riders weight off the spine. The spine on a horse's back has no padding WITCH makes it painful with the humans tail bone digging in his spine marking it very uncomfortable for him.

Love your work mate, and your natural understanding and approach, it is my understanding using a bit has no bearing on natural or unnatural horsemanship. Your horse language made good sense to me, and you have inspired me to try certain new ideas with both my arabian and thoroughbred horses, the arabian being very sensitive to pressure so we usually go bitless on her, i believe you have given me good tools to try. Thank you.

You who are saying this is not natural have no idea what you are talking about. Natural horsemanship has nothing to do with not using a bit or a saddle. Natural horsemanship is more like horse psychology. It used to be called horse whispering, but there is no such thing. It's all natural behavior. The way one horse would treat another. And it's not butterflies and roses. There is this thing called reality.

It's not natural. Natural Horsemanship isn't natural. Riding isn't natural. The horse do all the things to avoid the pain he get when it doesn't do the things the human want.
@peterlovett58416 жыл бұрын
I am sorry Sonja, but with that comment you have shown that you don't understand the concepts behind natural horsemanship at all. Very basically, natural horsemanship does not use pain as a training method. There is far more to it than that of course.@@theempoweredhorse2648
@theempoweredhorse26486 жыл бұрын
@peter Lovett there are so much scenes, where the horse tries to fight against the pain from the the bit and the hand of the rider. Also it shows a lot of stress in the whole video. Horsemanship and negative reinforcement works with that. The horse do all the things to avoid pain and negative konsequences. That's how negative reinforcement works. Not my mind, it's science and part of operant conditioning.

This is a great video! I am wondering why you don't let him walk after getting his energy up? Is it just for control? It seems unnatural for a horse (or human) to halt after running-- one should walk, that's a more natural energy release. I saw him naturally walking away and then you stopped him. What is the reason? It seems to go against nature and doesn't seem like a healthy habit to instil for the natural processes of the body. Thanks.
@heatherd23958 жыл бұрын
From what I saw it was all about controlling her horse's feet and movements. Which is all fine and dandy. Especially for a dressage horse. however, she misses the whole reading his body language part where he tells her that he has high energy and isn't comfortable standing. She set him up for this previously though by, when he started to move after she released the pressure, asking him to canter again. So he just assumed that is what she wanted. she needs to pay more attention to her horse
@marymorgan59838 жыл бұрын
Great video! I also really like your chaps. Where can I get a pair like that?
@sonseere108 жыл бұрын
You have soft hands and are well versed in the use of pressure and release with proper timing, rhythm, and feel. You certainly do not need the gloves or the stick.
@beautifuldancingfreestyle22028 жыл бұрын
the gloves are to help with grip of reins and also if a horse does infact pull on you..like my mare does...then it prevents blisters to appear. and as for the whip, a whip is not used for when a horse does some thing wrong it is used as a extension of the hand. such as if you need a horse to move a leg but he or she wont listen to leg you can tap with the white on what leg you want move and the horse will respond. such as if you would push the horse over if you were in the tack or wash stall.
@sonseere108 жыл бұрын
If you have good mutual respectful communication with the horse, you will not need gloves.
@beautifuldancingfreestyle22028 жыл бұрын
actually, some people that have that, sometimes ride horses that like to pull even if they have that. Such as my mare, when I wear gloves and when I dont, there is no difference between communication. BUT, if she pulls on me my gloves dont let it slide or rub against my hand, which leaves marks if you do not wear them.

Hi, my names Charlotte and I've been learning about natural horsemanship for 3 years now. I've attended the workshops of people in Perth who study to Parelli method but everyone has their own style and progression of training. Your videos really inspired me to start working with my young arabian the way you do with your warmbloods. I was wondering if you ever do workshops and if so, what part of Australia are you in? Learning from a video is great but i know its even better in person.

Much of this was coined by Ray Hunt ... however he was dealing with genuinely unridden and often unhandled stock ... he also used a pivotal technique with the horse 'coming out' to him which allowed the horse to work in a yielding way. You display an array of pre first ride techniques, but on a horse who is plainly bomb proof. Have a look at David Lee Archer and endless others who show these techniques on horses that really need them.

@LucyHeartfiliaasdfghj9 жыл бұрын
+JustBeawierd Angell I agree not to use a bit, but riding without saddle for too long is bad for your horses back because your weight is on a single point of the horse's spine
@sonseere108 жыл бұрын
+Frisk Dreemurr Correct.
@macobats4 жыл бұрын
You should always use a saddle if you're going to ride. You may like it but the horse does not. A correctly fitted saddle has space between the hoses spine and saddle and distributes your weight. Horses spines are sensitive and it has been learned that they can start to feel discomfort within five minutes of a rider on their backs, even worse bareback. Although they are big, horses are physically and physiologically fragile...We weren't meant to be on their backs. Learn more from Alexander Nevzarov and Klaus Hempling.
@Wavecattt4 жыл бұрын
Priscilla Oneil there is no correct saddle!!the best thing you could do for the horse is not to ride it! Like i said before, an animal is not there to serve us! There are a lots of experiments about the saddle and the back of the horse and if you want to learn more about it watch for example path of the horse and do some real research. Not the research you want to hear!! Get you fat ass of the horse!! You have 2 legs walk!!

***** I see your point and respect, I know that there are people out there who use the bit properly but I personally don't like to use it in any situation
@minihorselover00110 жыл бұрын
***** Bits are bad, ALL of them are bad and there's no way to use them effectively unless your mission is to get control through pain! They work against a horses entire system and screw up his breathing and digestion. The horse is chewing on the bit and tossing his head because he's in pain. Horses don't scream or whine like dogs and cats when they are in pain, they give off small physical signs that escalate as the pain increases. The reason why he doesn't toss his head or chew in a halter is because it doesn't hurt.

actually what she did was stretching the neck out and making sure he was supple. when a rider gently moves th head closer to their foot on one side it teaches them to give and be supple. and infact. horses in the wild do this movement quite often on their own. and they do it as a stretch,or to itch, or to look at something behind them.

@devilssemblance59384 жыл бұрын
@@gunnhildmoan1352 that doesnt negate the fact that it is pain coercion. Yes, bits can be used correctly, but unless you're using something like a mylar or a snaffle it can really fuck a horse up. I've seen first hand the damage of cut tongues and chipped teeth, lips pulled back until they bled. I personally dont use bits except for on one horse, and that's because she has nerve damage in her face and cant handle anything resting on the bridge of her nose. It's not ideal and I would use a hack or rope halter on her if it didnt hurt her. As it stands currently, most horses dont need bits, even in higher level competitions. There have been Olympic jumpers who've gone bitless and been fine and rather stunning. Pain coercion is unnecessary-- and that includes harsher hacks as well. Things can still hurt a horse when they arent in the mouth. There is just no reason to force a horse to do anything when you can get their cooperation through partnership. Tackless dressage is an incredible example of that; teaching a horse to stay collected even without anything on his face is an art form and tackless riding is the highest form of horsemanship. You dont need anything at all when your horse is your partner and friend.
