My heart breaks for that beautiful TWH stallion. Honestly for being so proud of their state breed Tennessee does them wrong. The state needs to outlaw Big Lick because they've been given the chance to fix their inhumane practices but have not and continue to lie about the abuse. Keep up the fight. Thank you for being the voice and advocate for all abused and neglected horses.

I live in Tennessee. I'm not originally from here. I told someone who has a former Big Lick horse that I want to go protest with HPHS. They warned me that I need to be careful and it would be unsafe for me as there are people in my area that raise horses for this gruesome torturous activity. What would happen to me or my horses was left I said. Scary stuff really. Her Big Lick horse is permanently damaged both physically and mentally. Though I have horses, I didn't dare get in the pasture with this poor boy. I don't blame him for being the way he is. So sad.

The Big Lick is so evil. Anyone who owns, rides or watches this abuse of the beautiful Tennessee Walkers have blood on their hands. That poor horse suffered so many indignities in his short life and in the end he was still beautiful. When he turned and looked at the camera he knew he was safe. Its such a shame that he never knew what it was like to be a horse that was loved and respected. Thank you for easing his pain and sending him to greener pastures. A 7 year old has absolutely no business being in that horrible state. He was in so much pain and still did what he was asked. When I saw him limping onto the trailer, it was pretty clear he won't make it. His body was so broken... At 7 years old! He could've had 20 more years easily, if he hadn't ended up in the Big Lick industry. And what do these monsters do after he's broken and useless? Force a horse, that can't even stand for longer than a minute, to go through an auction. How messed up do you have to be in your head to think that's a good idea? on another intake video a while ago, one horse in horrible shape had tawnee looking up legal guidelines and found out, by law, an animal going to slaughter basically just has to be able to walk. like, first off, how disturbing is that? who came up with that sick metric of well-being? and second, i'm not sure that's even a standard that's always met. it blows my mind that any of these animals even try for people when they're asked to do something. it makes me sick to see an animal so badly abused and neglected trying so hard to get up, walk or get in a trailer just because they're asked.
@kennikitty Жыл бұрын
@@mamamiabenjamia Yeah, that's ridiculous. And this Big Lick horse shows just how far this absurdly low guidelines are being stretched. I mean, horse clearly couldn't even stand, but was somehow able to move a couple of meters from point a to point b - apparently therefore it can "walk" and can be sold at an auction. I think we all agree this horse could barely move or stand, therefore could NOT walk and was NOT fit to go through an auction. There needs to be more than these laughable guidelines and it needs to be controlled properly with actual punishment for breaking them.
@mamamiabenjamia Жыл бұрын
@@kennikitty absolutely this horse was not fit to go through an auction and didn't get this way overnight or by accident. these auctions (and clearly, big lick) really do deserve to be investigated and to have abusers gutted. this is all happening in the broad light of day, i'm sure it's not a big mystery who's behind it and what the proof is.

The TWH was so very sad. If his bowel had dropped into his scrotum it was highly possible he had a strangulated bowel. Along with other physical ailments. It was very kind to give him the last act of kindness instead of him suffering longer or possibly being loaded on a slaughter truck and stepped on by the other horses. The prior owners needed to take into account that they might have to have enough dollars to get proper treatment for him. A great sadness My eyes run water for the horses taken to auction, especially in rough condition. Thank you HPHS for all you do. A few of them could barely walk but they gave it their all. The black TWH broke my heart. I feel like I have the easy job by donating. I'm not sure I could do your job day after day without having an emotional breakdown. The governor can not do it without the legislature putting it into a bill for the Governor to sign. It must be put into law through the state house and senate just like in the federal government. I was raised and got my first look at the rank abuse these horses go though when I apprenticed to train horses while I was in high school. The trainer told me that I needed to carry a whip in my hand all the time and pop the horses with it so they would know I was "boss." He and I got into some pretty intense fights about the abuse. I trained horses for many years and kept telling everyone that abuse will create one of two things, a badly injured horse or a horse that turns bad, abuse never is the correct way to do anything. They do it for money and what they think is esteem, but what it is mainly is greed and evilness against Gods creatures. They cut the tail tendons which is cruel, they sore the pasterns which is cruel, they build up those stacks and put heavy weights on their feet and if you watch how they throw their front feet sideways when they are moving you can tell they are in pain, it is not natural, it is not right, but until legislatures get tired of hearing people yelling about the abuse, they will do nothing, and I do not doubt that some in politics are either paid off by the big breeders or they have horses in the show rings doing the big lick themselves. Thank God it is not as rampant as it was when I was growing up, but any is too much. When I was growing up, the shows were more frequent, a lot bigger and full of spectators. The trainer came to my house one day when I was riding my TWH bareback, just a halter rope for reins and the first thing out of his mouth was "You are riding like a damn Indian." The first response i gave back was "Well since I am mainly Cherokee, I am Indian and I will train my horses the way I know is best for them, with love and kindness, as I get far more out of my horses than you do all of yours combined in your big fancy barn. When they are treated with love, and attention, they will bust their hearts for you and just keep giving. Yes they have to learn manners but no one needs to be abusive or cruel to teach them how to be mannerly. I hate that these horses go through such evil treatment, but TWH are not the only ones being abused for showing and making money, race horses are not even given time for their knees to mature before they are being run to death, saddlebreds are stacked and chained also, on all four feet, the stacks are just not as high or much, but the shoes have weights also. You do not want to get me started about the abuse of Arabians, especially the stallions to make then act like airhead, they are a naturally spirited horse but love socialization, love people, but if treated wrong, they go bad fast, then end up getting hurt because they were abused and become violent back. I love all horses, but Arabians are my forte, they have the eyes of eagles, the touch of the Lord on them, and can either be your best friend when treated right or your worst enemy when treated wrongly. They are highly intelligent and very willing when treated with respect and love. Did not mean to write an epistle, but animal cruelty makes my Cherokee blood boil and if I could stop it, without going to jail, I would. I have taken whips away from so called trainers at shows for abusing a horse and told them point blank if I saw them hit that horse again, I would willingly and freely use that same whip on them and then report them for abuse. I guess you could say that quite a few did not like seeing me showing my Arabians because not only did they know that my horses performed because they wanted to please me, and did extremely well in the show right without all the extra crap they used, but they also knew if i saw them abusing a horse I would be all over them like a duck on a june bug. There is a special place in h..l for those that abuse Gods creatures. So if they do not get punished here on earth, they will definitely answer to the Lord one day and it is not going to be pretty for them.

A very hard watch ..as auction updates are because we see these gorgeous animal's in pain or nearly starved to death..crippled by overwork or bad practices. Those 3 are at peace now running through the grass in heaven..I too love seeing them in the pasture for the first time..if you watch next time I'm sure you will see what I do which is an audible breath as if to say we can now relax. Seeing them start eating the grass still half in the truck tells you when the last time they had access to anything to eat .Bless you for what you do..I know I couldn't..that poor horse with the bent leg..broke my heart..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👍👏🐎🇺🇸

I don't have horses. I don't ride horses. I don't follow horse sports. That said, the sad, sweet, innocent faces of those horses Tawnee filmed as she walked past them in their pens at the beginning of this video made me want to adopt ALL of them and heal their wounds. They reminded me of LIFE magazine B&W photos taken of refugee children looking out at the photographer taking their pictures, through barbed-wire fencing that surrounded the camps they were kept in after WWII.

Excellent work HPHS team! You rescue these animals with selfless compassion and nurture them back to health so they can be adoptable horses. I highly respect that and will try to donate next month. Thank you for your video coverage, as well. Much ❤️ from Jo in Michigan 🌊

It's bittersweet to see them graze on the green grass as they get off the trailer. It's sad to see them in this condition. Thank you for reducing them. I can only dream of ever doing something like this.

For you Tawnee, I know how heartbreaking that is but for him it was the best blessing he could have gotten how can people do that to their horses that just breaks my heart and makes me cry you look into their eyes and you see their soul how can you do that to them💔 Thank God you got him and ended his suffering and I hope he felt love before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge🌈 May he now Gallup freely across the heavens free of pain touching the clouds ever-so-gently with his beautiful hooves.

It is completely criminal the abuse that poor horse has been forced to endure. Heartbreaking to see an animal treated like that.

Good video. I liked seeing the horses finally feed freely and calmly. I'm glad Dr Nancy could support your auction trip from her dental classes. Happy that you got a new truck. I'm surprised though because I though Big Red was newly purchased a couple of years ago. Hope this one lasts you. Hang in there through this heat wave!

I wish there was a way to find and prosecute the people who send these babies to the auction like that.

Thank you for the loving, peaceful 'way out' for the Big Lick horse and the other horse and mule. I cannot imagine them on a semi, traveling for God only knows how long, in such pain, to a traumatic end at a slaughterhouse.

Congrats on the “new to you” rescue rig! The rescue makes the best of bad situations. If humans actually had decency, then horses would have not been in these conditions. Unfortunately a little work and sacrifice, including knowing that they need help - does not seem to cross their minds. All the best to you.
