just for those who are really struggling with back hoof refusal and haven't already thought of it... Of course, make sure it isn't pain first. I thought it was a behavioural issue in my arab as he slammed down a back foot and was very reluctant of the other. I found after he was reshoed, that he had an abscess grow out in the opposite front foot (of his worst back). When it was healed, had to re learn to pick up his backs as he had developed the habit of slamming it down. Good luck and of course, great video. You cause a storm of light bulbs for me :) For us, in re-learning, ground work and common-sense respect solved it mostly.

I cpuld use ypur jelp eith my mare. She NEVER says yes. Ive wirked worh her fkr a year now amd i still have to clean one foot a day. Ive used desensitization, the lead, reward, everything and she puns her esrs and kicks no matter what. By now, this should not be a problem but she will harm hetself to say no amd uf i hitch her to groom her and clean her feet, she breaks halters. The rest of the time she us an amazing horse. She iveys my commands wrll she works hard and she hobestly loves me. But, no mayter what i do, i cannot approach this horse and groom ger coat or clean her feet

Hi Warwick, I have a Brumby i been working with ( only done about 6 hrs with him) but when i got him he was very spooky and wouldnt let me handle his back legs.. we been desentising and handling his legs and stuff but i dont think he was ever taught a cue or anything to lift them.. he will lift them but barely even off the ground sorta just rests his toe on the ground and i have to physically lift (with all my strength) his foot to where i can hold and it and clean it... how can i get him to lift it for me lol

my horse tries to push me out of the way, he will lean against my trying to pick up front and hind feet and seems to actually try to step on my feet

When your horse pushes against you just push back to show him your in charge and hopefully he should listen ,its what I did now I can.pick up my horses front and back feet. Hopefully it helps

but, the problem may return when you are not around. and, when the horse goes back home, he may revert to his old ways, especially if his owner stops doing the good things, and reverts back to her old behavior.

My 3 y/o unraced TB gelding won't pick up his back feet for me and I'm scared he's going to kick. The owner and my parents can pick them up fine but I just don't have the strength when it comes to pulling anymore. I broke my shoulder a few months ago and don't have the strength to pull on him and make him give it to me. Any advice?

Thanks for a fresh thought of why my horse is slamming his feet down on me!!! I've missed so much training with him for many months due to me being ill. I finally got anew perspective that makes sense
