Today I will bring you along with me as I put an aluminum shoe on this mustang. It's around 30 degrees F and a little breezy this morning. I'm not sure what heard this mustang came from so if you know anything about that let me know in the comments.

I've seen horses get shod when I was a kid; that's one patient horse, but frankly this guy knows what he's doing, too. The one thing that is missing is the farrier yelling at the curious dogs trying to sneak in and get the hoof shavings -- which the dogs love.

I'm addicted to watching people clean cow and horse hoofs. There's something so satisfying about watching this. The way you can do it without causing pain is what amazes me the most.

I am amazed at how fast you are at this. I have had people come out that take hours to do a routine clipping with no shoes at all. I really like how you explain what you are doing but you also don’t talk the entire video. Some guys don’t talk at all but others with talk your head off. To the untrained eye, it looks like you’re whacking the shoe so haphazardly, but it results in such a precise fit! Amazing! Edited to add: Have you ever accidentally banged your knee before when hammering the nails (or whatever the technical term is) into the hoof?

if you think about it it’s like clipping a bird. you cut some of their wings of. now they can’t fly, and of course there is no skin in the wing or blood cells. so it is the same for a horse just with a hoof it is painless, the people wouldn’t hurt a horse.

When he hammers the nails in he makes sure it goes out the side of the hoof and then secures it, so in this case it would be like piercing the white part of a toenail pretty much.
