@@corbinshepheard8395 They had the first operational jet fighters, though the British _Meteor_ saw combat first. The concept of the assault rifle was not a new one, its just the first of its name. The _panzerfauste_ and _panzerschrecke_ were actually created to counter the American "bazooka" when the Germans first encountered them in Soviet hands (via supplying Britain then to the USSR ). The casualties suffered do not match up with your claims. What nonsense are you on about?

That courageous pilot was Lieutenant Erwin Ziller,......... Ziller flew the bird on the 2nd and /3rd Feb 1945...unfortunately a minor landing accident releated of the braking chute early delayed testing. 18th Feb, Ziller flies again for about 45 minute before an engine failure at low altitude gave him no time to ejecthe was thrown clear of the plane but died on impact....

I built and flew a model to see how it works (see v=EWWKs5wR8QQ). It's definitely fast for the power. But it has a very serious yaw stability problem. The lower wing tends to swing forward in turns. The wing sweep does stabilize it but it's slow and does yaw back and forth a few time. If you bank hard it becomes quite extreme. If the high wing engine were to lose power it would be definitely very bad. I'm guessing that's what happened to the first test pilot.
@pepecohetes492
@pepecohetes492 11 жыл бұрын
Precisely one of the reasons the YB49 was not deployed (multiple accidents as well did it in), it had inherent instability problems which have been corrected in the B2 bomber design, as computers continuously monitor stability and make real time changes, something the previous flying wings lacked.

The first flight of the N-9M occurred on 27 December 1942 with Northrop test pilot John Myers at the controls.[4] During the next five months, 45 flights were made. Nearly all were terminated by mechanical failures of one sort or another, the Menasco engines being the primary source of those problems. After roughly 22.5 hours of accumulated flight time, the first N-9M crashed approximately 12 miles (19 km) west of Muroc Army Air Base on 19 May 1943. The pilot, Max Constant, was killed

the key was also that German fighter planes only had 15min of fighting gas left before they needed to return. That explains why Germans lost many bombers over England and not so many fighters in comparison

Not quite: the Mosquito's propellers are not invisible to radar and that alone would have generated a radar signature; granted the airframe was probably very low radar cross section, compared to anything flying at the time.

Annie Jacobson's book "Area 51" suggests the Russians also captured a Horten 229. Then, subsequently, piloted it remotely with two genetically altered "little people", crashing it in New Mexico and resulting in the whole "downed UFO" legend. The goal being to cause panic similar to what occurred following Orson Well's War of the Worlds broadcast. I am trying to get my head around that one.

The biggest factor in the air war in Britton was not radar. It was the fact that the German code was broken! This enabled the English to have every available plane in the air and not caught on the ground by the Germans Luftwaffe. Radar was not needed. It was only a backup as the allies new the Germans plans in detail beforehand.

Wood doesnot show up too well on radar compare to metal. The US Navy in the last 1960's was fireing by acient at than wooden boat as radar show there was no other ship or boats in the fireing range. Plus than 2.5 minutes reaction time they fighter would appear in time to stop the attack they have no computer or modern computer network back then.

I believe that the Germans knew about the British RADAR, and destroyed most of the towers early in the Battle of Britain. The Brits had a manual spotter system that they used, after that. The Horton 229 was like the Spirit stealth bomber -- not a fighter. The Horton would not have been very maneuverable, compared to the British fighters. And the Horton would have been "too fast" to deal easily with the slow Allied bombers. The technology of the flying wing is very interesting, but the match up of this technology with the Allied gear is a bit more complicated.
@pepecohetes492
@pepecohetes492 8 жыл бұрын
Incorrect; the Home Defense Chain radar suffered only one tower destroyed, and amazingly, it was back in operation the next day. The Nazis did not understand the extent to which Air Command had developed a system of tracking and ranging attacking aircraft. The Brits never used a spotter system as a primary system, I do not know where you got your misinformation. I suggest reading "Most Secret War" by RV Jones or "The Invention that changed the World, the history of Radar".

Sorry... the Horton was NOT a fighter, it was a bomber designed to deliver a nuclear bomb to the Eastern Sea Board. It was commissioned after the Horton brothers ahd successfully flown earlier glider versions as their bomb development was in its final stages and the jet version had a 5000 mile range.

@nethead4223 Germany declared war after Pearl Harbor not because of US aid to the Allies.Nazi justification for invading Poland was the Gleiwitz incident staged by the Nazis. Is your justification for Nazi atrocities that it was OK because the US did similar 100 years ago? I'm glad you brought up my country's evil treatment of the Indians. I've been wondering if people in Europe are still "ethnically cleansing" parts of the Balkans as was so recently common.

The Hortons also had flying wings since 1933. The first patents on flying wings had been from Austria (1905) and Germany (1910). Thats 24 years before northrop even started developing. And the point here, concerning the Ho 229 is, that its the first flying wing with jet propulsion. Developed from partlly from scrap parts during the war and long time before northrop came up with its first yet driven wing-design. And now stop bitchin.

@nethead4223 Germany invaded Poland. Britain declared war on Germany due to treaty obligations. Germany declared war on the US on 11 Dec 41. US foreign policy is often misguided but it isn't based on the whims of one "infallible" leader with specious ideas about race and dangerous emotional problems. BTW, the US didn't enter Texas in 1846, it began the war in Mexico. Texas was a sovereign nation having freed itself after Santa Anna revoked the Mexican Constitution of 1824.

He flitted from one master plan to another. Therefore Nazis could never devise a coherent plan for winning the war they started .
