Hello loujohns04: Your comments are appreciated. I agree. A more contemporary approach (and safer) would keep the knees aligned. However the Horton text book disagrees: "Maintaining the Flat Back line, demi-plie on both legs, and press the knees slightly outward, so the torso can lower between the legs" - The Modern Dance Technique of Lester Horton p.33
