I made a Hamnerhead in 8th grade shop class...it was cool as hell. I even rode it for a day but it broke...lol. A buddy glued it back, painted it and put it on his wall.

Great review These! These are the boards I came up on. Basically a cruiser with a tail and a tiny concave. I just went a bought a popsicle board for myself and one to take my 6 year old to learn on. At 6'2" size 12 shoes the concave on these tiny things is so twichy it's driving me nuts. I'm planning on getting one of these Hosoi boards . I see the Braille guys laughing at flat boards because they aren't lively enough. I guess we just used to have more input on our boards.

Haha, I agree you do sound a bit like Christian. Good review on this deck. You could try finding an earlier reissue of the Hammerhead that was made by a different wood shop/distributor(s). The current deck you reviewed is the latest version which has some extreme cuts, unlike the original. These current Hammerheads are made by Select Distribution. The previous reissues have much more mellow cuts and closer to the original shape from the 80's, which may be less likely to chip and damage as yours did.
@realStefanLowe7 жыл бұрын
Wow! I used to have one of these in the 80's. Didn't remember them that flat. Mine definitely had more tilt on the nose.
@mr.jamster84145 жыл бұрын
Stefan Lowe yeah, i think some reissues have a flatter nose than the originals. if you look at the original ban this board, the nose looks pretty upturned, but the stage xi one is completely flat. then theres santa cruz, with 2 inch long 15 degree noses.

Nice video ! I have the same white OG Hammerhead and a friend sent me a NOS Ultra-Vision tailbone which fits the shape of the tail. So because the tailbone was yellow, I happened to have some Krux with yellow baseplates, then I finally ordered some yellow "Black Diamond" rails from TGM skateboards that have the old school 4 hole pattern. I commented because they do make 11 inch wide grip tape. It's just hard to find!
@pleaseenteraname.58578 жыл бұрын
The superbird lapper bends even less than the bird 2. It fits perfectly to the truck height (if you use 1/2 inch pads), and the hardware counter syncs into the board. The only downside is that it's extremely rare and hard to find.

This is the best video I’ve found on KZbin, showing an OG hammerhead, I have one and I want to set it up as a cruiser, thinking 60mm wheels, having problems with the trucks tho, a lot of people are using 169s on these, some use 149...should I get 159s?
@Mustangandtang4 жыл бұрын
It definitely depends on the width of the wheels. I had the 169s on here and with the mini cubics, they were way too wide. I think the best in between would be the 159s (149s MIGHT be too narrow with the Hosoi deck but I can see work with the wide mini cubics) because I owned those trucks and could see them working even with the mini cubics, but also my g bones which are skinny but my all time favorite "old school" style wheels. Thanks for watching!
@mig69534 жыл бұрын
@@Mustangandtang are the wheels suppose to jut out the sides on old school boards?
@Mustangandtang4 жыл бұрын
@@mig6953 A tiny bit, but not as much as my setup in this video. This was only my 2nd true old school build and if I were to go back and build it again, I would not have gone with the 169s and mini cubics. If I was stuck with these wheels I would have gone with 149s, but if I was stuck with only the 169s, I would instead choose something like g bones or another slimmer profile wheel. The big no-no is using modern skateboard wheels with the oldschool decks, it just doesn't feel right at all!

I've been considering getting an old school board, I think I want a Suicidal Tendencies board. My only question is, is how hard is it to adjust to a board with no concave? I've pretty much only rode traditional shaped boards and no one in my area has an old school board for me to try out. Would you still recommend getting an old school board?
@rzende7 жыл бұрын
chilibro it's fucking hard dude, not so much for flip tricks and 180s or 360s, but it feels so weird for one foot ollies and behihannas and even normal ollies, that kinda more of the square tail and it's so hard to keep the board in line on air
@yepyep38976 жыл бұрын
It’s a big misconception that all 80s boards had little to no concave. There were some SC boards that had extreme concave. Look for many boards from ‘87 and on to have more concave.

Cool video & all, but I'd recommend skinnier wheels like powell g-bones or smaller trucks like Ace 55's or independent 159s.
@Mustangandtang8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my video! I actually bought some g bones super recently. They are a lot better! I'll have a video soon riding them. I'll save the mini cubic wheels for the really early 80s decks from now on.
@pleaseenteraname.58578 жыл бұрын
Mustangandtang Yeah, the mini cubics add like an inch to the trucks. You could put the 169s with mini cubics on like a board with a pig shape (any dogtown reissue or early powell deck), but yeah g-bones are perfect with a board like the mid-late 80s decks. Anyway, I'll definitely check out more of your vids and I'll definitely subscribe.
@yepyep38976 жыл бұрын
Concave greatly increased from ‘86 to ‘87, including on Hosoi boards, if I remember correctly. Most pros didn’t use lappers. To be period accurate, you’d have to use taller OJ II Hosoi wheels. I believe Hosoi designed the cut-in parts for grabs, but I’m not sure. I’m trying to find my old ‘87 Hammerhead, with old Indys and OJ IIs. During this period, some set-ups, such as this one, were much heavier than others, such as many Powell-Ps, with Tracker trucks. Some decks, such as Hosoi and Gators, were much heavier than the very popular PPs. Also, Gullwings and Indys were very heavy, and Trackers and Thunders were much lighter.

@Mustangandtang9 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! the trucks are independent 169 size trucks. the size chart says it works for boards about 9-10 inches wide, but with the wide mini cubic wheels, it fits the board perfectly.

What trucks were paired with the Hammerhead OG Hosoi deck? I was looking at the deck and am hoping the Indy 169s I have with the new bolt pattern will fit.
@Mustangandtang4 жыл бұрын
Dean D I had Indy 169 trucks on this one. I will say with the mini cubic wheels it doesn’t work but something like the Powell peralta g bones would be a lot better. I also believe Indy 159 trucks will work with it too. I know they have the “double hole” or “classic and modern hole” base plates and those work better because then you can buy a set and never have to worry about a deck having modern or classic hole drilling. If you have a power drill that is another work around that I’ve done in the past but you must make sure you get the EXACT drill bit size right.
