Just in case anybody is wondering. The black iron pipe going in the building on Wednesday is for waste water. You can tell by the sanitary sweeps instead of squared off tees. If you see square tees, it’s supply water or fire suppression pipes. If you see tees that are curved, that’s for waste water that’s not under pressure and might have solid objects and other materials like toilet paper you don’t want to obstruct the flow of the liquids.

Thanks again for another high quality and enjoyable video. I know nothing about concrete. I am amazed at the speed this concrete seems to initially set, support the drive-on floats, achieve a super smooth finish and then have construction materials dropped back in via the crane. None of the garage/shop builds I've seen ever progress like this. Can anyone speak to the type of concrete or pour methods that achieve these results and how they differ from smaller residential type projects?

Thanks again for another great week with amazing editing, as usual. Any chance of getting a 1x view of the tower crane tower moving as it swings around with a load? At high speeds we see it move quite a lot, but it's difficult to see how fast that movement is in real time.
@HospitalConstruction4 жыл бұрын
I'll keep that request in mind. The crane actually moves fairly slowly, as often does the attach and detach process, so including much of that at normal speed would increase the video length quite a bit. But maybe there could be a separate video or something, don't know.

I was going to post the same thought. We have several great shots of preparing and tensioning the cables. Then at 42:12 we have a good shot of grouting up the holes. But what we haven't seen them cutting the cables off, and whatever they do that creates the little dimple you see before he fills the hole.

Nick Boomer , his point is still well taken. Yes, it’s a pretty hot mix. It’s not your average house slab mix that gives the crew an hour to get around to troweling it off. This one is full of plastisizers and other additives to let it pump smoothly and set up fast. Plus they have the advantage of working in the cool side of the Bay Area. It’s not a hundred plus degrees so they aren’t playing Russian Roulette with their mud.

i think it was just the way they designed it. both types are sound, it just all comes down to $$$. have you watched the first hospital being constructed? if so, the MOB is a combination of concrete below grade and steel above.

Two points where did the pump section come from 42-50 and where is the access from floor to floor given that there is no footage of stairs having been put in yet
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
The pump towers are fixed height, maybe 3 stories or so. They are just lifted up and the base anchored to a higher floor. There is a good shot of this three or four weeks back. There are no doubt several construction stairways. One is visible at 14:25, behind and to the right of the crane tower.
@HospitalConstruction4 жыл бұрын
The lower floors have stairs installed already, they're just not really visible from our vantage point. One of the early episodes in the series (I don't remember exactly which one) showed some of the stairs being delivered, and in fact the next episode (Week 28) will also show some stairs being delivered. The upper floors have access by ladders. In some episodes in the future I hope to be able to catch shots of stairs being installed, but so far have only gotten a tiny snippet.
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
The top of one of those ladders is visible at 8:27. It's barely sticking out of the box that one worker has his left hand on, to the left of the two porta potties.

@HospitalConstruction4 жыл бұрын
Because of the fog and being surrounded on three sides by water, San Francisco tends to be cool but humid. There are occasional exceptions, such as the period coming up soon when the wildfires start.

Thanks again, Just curious. The same workers are going to work inside the lower floors of the building later ? (after all upper floors are done).
@informeddissident4 жыл бұрын
Some of the companies may have additional contracts beside just the base work. I've worked many projects where the concrete carpenters also provided labour until completion. Most of the work is specialised though and requires separate contractors

@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
On these floors the reinforcement is provided by the blue post-tensioning cables. The rebar is concentrated around the columns to transfer the floor load from those cables to the columns. Look back a few weeks and you will see the same pattern on all the residential floors. They used a different design, with lots of rebar, on the lower floors which will be commercial space and "public" space for the residents.
