Last year we planted music garlic and overall we were pleased with it. So, we are going back this year with music garlic. We have thought about planting some hardneck garlic but we do not believe that it gets quite cold enough where we live. While Hoss was sucking the water out of his cup because the garlic had a bit too much of a bite. It appears that the Old Goat was sucking on a bottle of maybe moonshine. As he is now behind Hoss and seems to be on the wagon!

The ones that grow best for me in Florida zone 9b are the Inchellium Red and the Red Toch. I pre chill them for about 10 weeks in the refrigerator. Thanks for the video it is interesting to try all the different garlic types, we are use to only the flavor of the grocery store garlic. The ones we grow at home have so much flavor that I noticed you can use less garlic in recipes.

Hello there! I have watched every video you have on garlic and onions, I have bought my onions and garlic only from reputable places (like Hoss Tools!) but every time - even though I plant in different places, use different soil and do everything "the right way" I always get a pest. It is the allium leaf miner. I was hoping you were going to talk about it, because I have given up all hope of ever growing onions and garlic. I have even tried one year and skipped a couple years. I still get it. Do you know anything I can do? I am in Pennsylvania. Maybe you don't deal with it in the south, but I really would love to try one more time. Any advice????

How many cloves would I need to plant one acre of elephant garlic? Where can you buy that much in bulk quantities?
@gardeningwithhoss Жыл бұрын
Between 800 and 2,000 pounds of garlic or elephant garlic cloves will be required to plant an acre. The exact amount required will vary based on variety, clove size and plant spacing. Elephant garlic would require about 2,000 pounds. You would need to pre-order that amount from a supplier early in season as it is hard to source that amount. If we knew ahead of time, we might could help you out, but we are almost sold out of the elephant garlic at this time.

I have no idea the variety I have growing, as I brought it from my mom's house. Most are soft neck. Did harvest a few hard necks. Originally grew them in a large whiskey barrel type pot. Then decided to use it for a tree, so dug a spot in the flowerbed next to my back fence and dumped the potting soil and apparently missed garlic. I am never without garlic. It grows, flowers, seeds, etc, every year. That was before I put my garden in many years ago. Also grow some under my peach trees as a companion planting. I did try growing Early Italian in a raised bed and most were so small. Probably not enough water and fertilizer. I have so much in storage that I won't need to grow any for awhile. In the process of dehydrating it and making garlic powder. Thanks for the taste test, made me laugh and know which ones to try when I am ready.
