will this only work on a virtualbox? I am learning bit by bit on how to use apache but I am not certain if I am doing it right now. I have the apache2 downloaded on my computer, I have a linux distro OS, I am confused now

Pretty sure it works on a linux distro without a vm. Every tutorial in this series has worked for me and I'm using ubuntu. I'm actually about to implement this on my own home webserver.

Mine doesn't work, the only thing i can think of, is because I haven't port forwarded yet, could that the reason mine doesn't work? because I have done everything correctly and I have checked many times.

You need to port forward, otherwise it won´t work.
