I use emulators a lot, there’s no real way for the game to tell that it’s not legitimate. Some games found ways to try to stop you from using emulators, but there weren’t that many and they could mostly be solved very simply. The game puggsy (or however you spell it I’m not sure) on the sega genesis made it so that if you had your emulator set to save the s-ram automatically it wouldn’t work. Puggsy used a password system just for this anti piracy measure, it backfired though because you could just turn off s-ram saves on your emulator and it would work. Im sorry for ranting about puggsy

I like how Hallyboo isn't just a nightmare, he's a pastiche of the overly vengenceful host who hates piracy: He's trapped in his beliefs of thinking that piracy is a crime against humanity, he assumed that you stole the game because you were fully evil, he thinks that the world is going to die because of this theft and he tries to intimidate you. But because of thay, because he thinks the player is a monster, because he tries to traumatise him to death, he become the monster, and the player appears as the poor bullied guy.
