This is so wild that one of your vids came up in my search for this! 👍

Haha... that's awesome! :D I think I have one of the best ranked videos for Static Hosting topics. I think I rank especially well for BunnyCDN, because of this video. You might wanna checkout this playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLnceaqSWnSG0twAgXzEd1NWWEPH8WcGjR I've got some videos for hosting static sites on Azure and GCS, as well. :P The Azure method is my favorite. :)

This is so useful, thanks. I set myself up the same way following the video (would have been lost without it). Just one question - if you need to go back into admin to do something on the site do you have to go and change the DNS settings in CF temporarily so you can get back into WP to make changes? Then when you're done to go and set CF back again? Thanks a lot!

Glad you got value... thanks for commenting! :) Sounds like you are doing things in a way that is unfamiliar to me, though. If you are using things on top of a Wordpress build, you might just wanna use something like Hardypress.

Thanks for your reply! Funnily enough I sent them an email at the weekend! Will wait and see what they say. Sorry I maybe didn't phrase my question well. What I meant was if you need to go back into WP to change something in the site, like update a page or something. I think I've answered my own question since I wrote it tho. I think I do just turn off the CNAMEs in CF then do my tinkering in WP back at the host, re-export the site, FTP it up to Bunny, then point CF to Bunny again. I think lol. I think without doing that then example.com/wp-admin will have CF sending me to Bunny which of course isn't what I want. I think that's right!!

Heh... I would never use this stuff like that with Wordpress. :p Either there's a plugin to make it easier, or I wouldn't use it with Wordpress. :D I have only used these methods for creating completely static assets, designed in HTML. I'm getting ready to move away from that, to some degree, as well... into the glory of Tumblr. :) Keep-in-mind that I don't get notifications of follow-up comments, here. Sounds like you are figuring things out, though. You might also look into Gridpane, Closte, and Cloudways. Cloudways is my preferred Wordpress Host. (it's so cheap, and easy!) Here's my link for them: hi.getivan.com/cloudways I think it gives a little cash, but I don't recall.

Oh yes - totally presumptuous of me to assume you were using WP too! Oops! My bad. I'm still so new I'm just going round assuming everyone does things in the same way I'm trying. I wouldn't have a clue how to create something in HTML. You are totally right - there are plugins. I've been using one to export the static site. It was the getting up to Bunny bit I was having trouble with but thanks to your video I did manage to get it to work in the end. It was just the maintenance bit I was wondering about. I think that method will work tho. It's not a site I will need to update often, if ever. Ooh Tumblr - sounds exciting! Good luck with it. I've had several peeks at your website and I just love it so much. The simplicity of it and the way the menus smoothly and instantly load. I am really not sure I've seen a website that elegant and responsive before. Many congratulations on what you've achieved there! I can imagine it's a real customer magnet! Thanks a lot for the recommendations. I will look them up. HardyPress didn't reply! They still might but it's been three working days now so they can't be that eager for new customers. Thanks for the Cloudways link. Just clicked it and their page design is beautiful also! Cheers.

Oh, no worries, man... everybody uses Wordpress (haha), I just did that for years, and for as much as possible, I try to keep it super simple, now. There's so much that goes into a Wordpress site, and I was spending more time in the weeds, tinkering around, than actually doing sales, and making money. There's value in that, but it's also easy to get trapped in it, and I just didn't want my agency to become all about basic tech support for clients. It's a drag. (LoL) But yeah, with the purely static approach, the hosting savings are terrific, and with no plugin updates, you never have conflicts or glitches or security issues, etc. If you are fully static. It's great. Your site could probably last a hundred years, like that. Glad to hear you are developing your method, though... Bunny is great! :) I really appreciate your compliments on my website. Some people have insulted me over it, but after doing this stuff for years, it seems like many don't understand the benefits of that template I designed. Like you said, it's fully-responsive, simple, and minimalist. The load time is razor sharp. I did, indeed, initially design it to create really simple sites for web design clients, but I never got that part of my business off the ground, last year. So, I'm just using it for side projects and brands, and since Tumblr is done in HTML, I also had someone help me convert it to a Tumblr theme, recently. So, that's gonna be a sweet use-case, soon. But yeah, again, I really appreciate your good words on it... I put a lot into trying to make something clean and high performing, but most don't get it... LoL... Yeah, Cloudways is great... it's managed, too... they have a one-click CDN integration, and I think it's priced similarly to KeyCDN. I've still got some things over there, and it's honestly the best thing I've found, so far, for Wordpress. It's VPS level hosting, but for shared host prices. You can put like five sites on one server, or something like that. It's great... Anyways... I checked this manually, but just remember that I don't get notifications for comment replies. I've tried to change it, but it still doesn't notify me. Sounds like you are kicking tires and taking names. You're definitely kicking the right services! :D Thanks for touching-base, man... :)

I've noticed that origin shield would generate a 403 error if somebody tried to access the subdomain you set up in custom hostname directly.

Everything I did, at the time of the video, was working fine. Not sure what you're referring to, here, and I haven't done this method in a really long time. My better method is static sites in Azure object storage, and also just Tumblr, now.

Should I delete all of the DNS controls they give you when you set up your Cloudflare account? Or should they just be all grey?
@getivan
@getivan 4 жыл бұрын
That all depends on the domain you are transferring, and whether or not you wanna keep old records. If you are transferring an older site, then you might wanna keep that stuff, and carefully consider what each record does. If it's a new website, with basically nothing going on, then you are perfectly fine with deleting everything, and starting fresh.

Why host in bunnycdn? What about amazon S3 or google cloud?
@getivan

I explain this in the video. Multiple reasons. One of the bigger reasons is the edge rules. I still mostly use Azure, though, since I don't need edge rules that much.
