Very similar to Shaun of the Dead where the entire plot of the movie is planned out by Ed at the beginning. I don’t remember all the details, but it’s stuff like “then we’ll stumble back here, play some pool, maybe get a quick bite” and at the end of the movie they literally stumble back there (because they’re pretending to be zombies), fight the zombies off with pool cues, and Ed gets bitten.

When he was a young actor working on his first movie The Lion in Winter with Katharine Hepburn he was in a similar situation. His first scene on his first day shooting was sitting opposite Katharine & they filmed her face on doing her line & cut at the end of the day saying “Katharine you can have the day off” when they were to film his response. She said “but I talk to Tim in the scene! I am coming in tomorrow morning” & she came in the following day just to say the line to him from off camera. He obviously remembered how this big star treated him as a rookie actor & vowed to do the same for others he worked with. Nice guy as well as a fantastic actor.

One thing you may not be aware of. The code for the evidence locker is 999, which is the UK emergency services number, equivalent to your 911. With the cameos, the Santa who stabs him in the hand was Peter Jackson, and Janine was Cate Blanchett. So you have three people from LotR / The Hobbit. Bob from the crime scene was Joe Cornish, who directed and wrote Attack the Block. He used to do the Adam & Joe Show with Adam Buxton, who played Tim Messenger in this. This film has a lot of the best foreshadowing of any movie, ever. The colour of the Cornetto in each movie relates to the story. Red for blood in Shaun of the Dead. Blue for police in Hot Fuzz. Green for who the bad guys are in The World's End.

Reason why it is called a cornetto trilogy: The name originates from a "silly joke" during the promotion of Hot Fuzz. Wright had written in Cornetto ice cream as a hangover cure for Frost's character in Shaun of the Dead, based on his own experiences.

With how much you're enjoying the Cornetto Trilogy I would love for you all, with Eric, to do Spaced too. There's only two seasons, seven episodes apiece, so it won't take you long. Simon and Nick super early in their careers, loads of actors you'll recognise from Sci-Fi and British tv/films generally; it's really nerdy and you'll love all the many references throughout and it's a fun time generally. Do also give Paul a watch too. It's not part of the Trilogy technically but it's still the same duo in a fun, reference-filled film which is definitely worth checking out for some easy watching.

One of the most shamelessly entertaining movies of all time. One of the reasons the action is so hilarious for UK audiences is that, while this could happen in America, it's ridiculous to the extreme for this kind of gunfight to happen here - especially in a sleepy village! The sight of it had my wife and I in stitches from start to finish.

Probably mentioned before, but the reason why Farmer Webley got killed was that his hedge-cutting mishap and subsequent complaint exposed the village's arsenal as it was kept in his barn. Wot the villagers used at the end of the film in the massive gun battle in the square were their back-up guns.

The reason it's called The Cornetto Trilogy is because they got free Cornettos at the premiere of Shaun of the Dead and figured they would see if they could get more if they did it again.

This wasn't the first time Jim Broadbent (Frank the chief inspector and Danny's dad) has played a corrupt police officer. He also played a character called Roy Slater in the British sitcom Only Fools and Horses in the 80s and 90s, who is a sort of enemy to the main characters in the show for a while before he ends up being arrested for diamond smuggling and written out of the show.

One of my favorite scenes is nicholas on the horse because the imagery takes on 2 very different meanings depending on if you were on the neighborhood watch. For those not, here comes the gallant hero upon a white horse resembling purity. On the other side, the angel of death upon a pale horse. Such good imagery.

I believe, when you said 'I need to know more about him', you were referring to the older balding guy with the white beard, the head of the neighbourhood watch. That is of course, the wonderful Edward Woodward, the ORIGINAL 'Equaliser'. Check out some of the tv series, there's bound to be some on YT. I think you'll like the 80's throwback. Quite a popular tv series, which has then gone on to spawn two films with Denzel.

I've always felt that the Cornetto Trilogy was made by a group of friends just for fun. If you haven't seen it I would recommend "Spaced". It's a comedy series with a lot of the same people in it as this. It's only 14 half hour episodes and it's great.

There's a fun fact about Bill Bailey's characters. One of them reads Ian Banks books and one reads Ian M. Banks. For those that don't know both are the same person but Ian Banks wanted to use a different name for different types of books.

Edward Woodward who played the head of the Neighbourhood Watch, is better known for his hard man action roles on tv & in films. On U.K. tv, he was Callan in the `60`s secret Gov. Dept. of dirty tricks/executions. Later he was Robert McCall in the `80`s U.S. tv series the Equaliser. Then he appeared as Mr. Jones in Le Femme Nikita, the `90`s action series.

I always assumed he put the ketchup in his knife hand, so when he "stabbed" he also squeezed and "blood" came out, rather than having put it in the notebook. I think the notebook was put there to stop the stab from hitting his actual chest "blood" or not. (This is one of the all time favorite movies and I've thought about it a lot lol.)

Jim Broadbent in so many movies as was 'Walder frey' from GoT also played the caretaker in Harry Potter. Most of the older cast are well known/loved British TV & film personalities. It took the greatest plays & motives & reduced them to the tiniest village parish-politics, but done brilliantly. It's like the NWA isn't trying to bring a new world order, just keep winning Village of the Year. - very Stepford type scenario. Awesome car chases & stunts done with bog-standard production cars instead of kick-ass muscle cars. Huge firefights that showed more weapons in the movie than exist in the country. The most petty things blown up into massive shots, like doing paperwork, pouring a pint, paying for the drinks & crisps. The fight scene in the model village gave it a Godzilla v King Kong look. Amazing editing just kept you on your toes. Definitely the best of the Cornetto trilogy. FYI, swans are protected birds & officially, every swan in the UK is owned by the crown.

This gives me flashbacks to 2019 when I taught an 11 year old kid at Lostock High School. I was an Australian teaching overseas until COVID. He had the West Country accent and literally sounded like a 50 year old man. Being unable to understand him, I picked a kid to translate. Unfortunately, he was from LIVAPUL. Needed a translator for the translator.
