Texas is set to hit 100+ for the next 9-10 days. This means you need to be using soaker hoses around the parameter of your home daily. Williamson recommends 30-40 minute intervals each day. Those soaker hoses cause more damage than preventing one. They don't distribute water evenly and can be easily damaged. Two sections of my house got cracks because of those suckers.. one got damaged, possibly by animal bite open, caused the water to accumulate in the middle section ...Drip irrigation system might be better and place them away from the foundation, possibly 3 feet or more. However, it is not stress-free. You still have to check from time to time to see if there is any damage to prevent overwatering. A little dried soil is ok... better than overwatering. I learned it the hard way by following all the recommendations from the experts. Lawn sprinkler systems might be the safest way.

@@williamsonfoundationhi have a question Due to the ongoing heat here in Katy, TX I have noticed a gap of soil between the foundation of our house about 1/4 “. Should I buy topsoil and soak it with a lot of water so as to cover the holes? I am concerned that if I leave it alone the foundation may shift. Any suggestions? James

One question. we do have separation between the dirt and the house....the soaker hose being 6-12 inches from the house obviously won't get in those crevaces....but when we run the sprinklers some water can get down in the crevaces.....do we need to fill the crevaces with rocks, dirt, other? appreciate the help

I have a few questions: 1. do you need to adjust if you have unbalanced conditions/environments such as the north side of the house stay more moist in the south side of the house stay more dry; as in water the southside more than the northside? 2. Do you recommend recommend 18” spacing drip irrigation hose as it’s more durable ? 3. If you put 3in gravel around the foundation will you be able to water less like 50% less water since the gravel helps retain the moisture? Thanks!

Unfortunately we cannot speak to the Bay Area. It has everything to do with the soil in your area. In North Texas our soil has a very high content of clay.

@@lyssatarango2997 Between the spigot and the hose. Right at the beginning of the hose. I highly recommend just getting a "whole house" filter anyways because it'll protect everything from your shower heads, faucets, and soaker hoses. I have the whole house filter and have never had any issues.
