The man from Strabane (Brady) does an excellent version but this is tops! The sax and piano steals it.

No, but it is a good version, a little bit soft for me. Dylan's version is head and shoulders above it. He is telling a tale, and I believe it and am there with him.

Some how, i punch in one word and transition from Texas music (Freddie Fender) to HHF!. i had the awesome experience to catch them in downtown Denver, CO, USA - summer of 1993. Free show, city park of some sort, and one band member didn't have passport. End Result! Great Show, and i have been a Hot House Fan ever since! Love to all the fans and to the power of music! this song was recorded for a BBC/ RTE show called "Bringing It All Back Home." If anyone has the clip from the show please upload it. It is such a haunting and emotional song. This song can be found on double cd soundtrack to the series of the same name. it's well worth adding to your collection.

It is a dam good version. It was totally different, from Paul Brady's and Christy Moores version. This was also important. The Hothouse Flowers, always had great respect for our music and song tradition.

Michael Dineen All this talk about "our" music and "our" tradition isn't healthy- as Liam himself once said: "Traditional music doesn't belong to me - I belong to it!"

Personally I don't hear where the major difference is in this version. He sings the melody the same way PBrady does.

The definition of cultural appropriation: Taking a folk song from Louisiana... Slap an Irish twist on it because of a pop cover in the 70s that had marginal success... Throw up a picture of the Irish coastline despite the song literally being set in the Louisiana swamps... Then pass it off as if everything about what I just wrote was normal.

Would there even be folk songs from Louisiana if it wasn't musicians from one genre finding inspiration from musicians of another? This a respectful rendition by some excellent performers. Try to enjoy!

Really nice version, but its cadence and rhythm is exactly like Paul Bradys version. Think Paul bradys version is what made this song what it is.

Unrecognizable- This is a terrible version of this song- its like a choirboy singing when the whole spirit of this song begs it to be catarwhalled like a sea shanty!
