Hot hypercar classic heads for the hills - the Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion

With a little over 20 made, the 911 GT1 Strassenversion is one of the rarest of all Porsche cars. Based on the 911 GT1 racecar, it first hit the streets back in 1998. The performance from its 544PS 3.2-litre engine, that saw it roar from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds, was astounding - and still is. Watch as one makes its escape from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and heads off on a wild road trip into the mountains.

Every car that has entered the Porsche Museum has been painstakingly restored to it's former glory and, on occasion, taking out on the open road or to events for the express purpose of driving them. If you see a car on a stand in that Museum, it is off the lot ready to roll.

Fun fact: Porsche GT1 Strassenversion, CLK-GTR Strassenversion and the F1 GTR/GT Longtail where cars that weren't supposed to exist. FIA regulations stated that the GT1 cars had to be linked to a road legal vehicle with at least 25 production units and manufacturers had to make them. These three cars where just a necessity and ended up as the most legendary and beautiful sports cars ever made

If I was Porsche (or Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Nissan, McLaren, or Louts), I'd take a page out of Panoz's book and make GT1 cars special order cars. Panoz will built you a GTR1 for about 900k. Of course, the 911 GT1 would be more expensive for this one 2.5 to 3.5 million dollars, and the Evo for about 1.5 million. People would buy them. It's been my dream dream garage to own every GT1 roadcar.
