Most underrated guitar channel for bluegrass. Glad I was able to find it. You've helped me a lot on these style licks. I look forward to getting far enough to take your courses next year.

Great stuff! Simple, but helpful. important. With bluegrass as a second language, I find it so easy to get off by one note in the scale when improvising, and not make the right connection/transition to the next chord.

Great lesson! But sometimes I wonder if pick direction will become natural for this style. When I speed the licks up I can’t tell anymore. I feel for ya when you’re explaining directions during the lick. Dam hard lol!

Would like to have you give ideas on how to incorporate these licks in actual songs. Also, most all your licks are 16th notes that many of us intermediate players have trouble playing. What about some licks with 8th notes? How to shorten these based on the song we’re playing.
@aaronjaxonguitarАй бұрын
@@lbredthauer5368 I’ve got a few videos coming out in the next few weeks covering hot licks in the context of classic tunes that covers that. However, I’ve already got a lot on this channel that covers cool licks in the context of bluegrass standards and fiddle tunes Also, check out my YT shorts. I basically teach a lick and show it to you in the context of a tune in under 60 seconds and I have a bunch of them on this channel. One last thing: if you are playing bluegrass lead guitar, you need to get familiar with playing 16notes. Almost all bluegrass lead is played as such. Sometimes people tab the ideas as 8th notes because it makes the notes easier to see on the page but rhythmically speaking, bluegrass lead is almost always played as 16th notes. Even if you need to practice them slowly at 30-40bpm, you should get used to playing 16th notes. Good news is that w a tool like the Strum Machine, you can practice these ideas as absolutely slow as you need to. I’ve included links to backing tracks for this lesson in the email w the tabs.

If you have to learn these licks by tab rather than developing your ear and learn the fretboard, then you'll forever need tabs. And tabs get you nowhere in a jam.
@dansolen945123 күн бұрын
That’s nonsense. Why not just include reading language too? I’m a competent fiddler learning guitar. I’m perfectly capable of learning these licks with or without tab. I’ll remember them better tomorrow with tab… and have them in my motor memory by the end of the week and I’ll remember them still in 20 years. Written music is a great way to communicate large quantities of musique quickly.
