Why are people hating on the commentators? I love it ... it's humorous, and for me, as a beginner, it's educational. Even if they call a shot wrong, they still showed a possible alternative shot and then you get to see how other players might handle the same table.

There used to be consternation and doubt as to whether Danny DiLiberto coined the malapropism "amphibious" (to refer to a player's ability to switch hands, i.e. a right-hander that can comfortably shoot left-handed). Some say that Allan Hopkins coined it, trying to defer the blame away from (and protect) Danny DiLiberto. At timestamp 2:09, after hearing Danny use another malapropism, referring to Alex Pagulayan as "going through a transformation" (instead of the correct "going through a TRANSITION") from 9-ball on a 9-foot table to 10-ball on a 10-foot table, I now believe that Danny DiLiberto is the correct source of these Archie Bunker-esque malapropisms.

THAT is playing POOL! Wow. Danny is exactly right, amateur should not have a negative connotation. Danny, you missed out on the real reason to take Latin though, it is VERY useful if you want to date a nun! :-) When Alex was all stretched out on that shot that he grossly over cut you can see his head move sideways during the shot. Seems like a greatly heightened probability of something like that happening all one foot stretched out sleeve almost in contact with another ball. Not something you see him do much at all. That cueing position would make a 'good' torture posture if you had to hold it for long. Not exactly conducive to good stroke mechanics. That was pretty difficult, even though the shot itself was not. I guess you would have to call it an unforced error, but c'mon, there was a bit of 'force' there, in reality. Seems like, in retrospect, he might have wished he'd picked up the crutch, everything would have been easy and balanced then. You can see how nasty that position was by watching him extricate himself from it. I half expected to hear Mark say this, and he didn't. It's those kinds of 'should I or shouldn't I' decisions that are hard, when you think it's basically a coin flip beforehand. Shane makes such great decisions moving around tables. Don't try to be superman for the four when your cueing position sucks right on the cushion like that, just roll on down, natural angle, center ball and take the slightly longer shot. Same thing on the multi rail roll out after it...nothing stupid, just 'mosey the cue ball on out' to where you need to be,utilizing easily obtainable angles, without pulling out some monster English or whatever, and lowering the pocketing percentage. When things are really ticking over like they should be the pros make this stuff look like easy, and like it is almost boring to them. Makes you think you should be able to jump on a table and do it, too. Good luck with that, if you are not a pro, or very close to it, and that would be an occasional thing, for the non pro, from my experience.

Shot clock rule at Derby City is that if the player is already down on the shot when the clock hits zero, as long as he doesn't come up and try to reset himself, it will be a legal shot. For example, if Alex had stood back up at or after the clock hit zero, then it would've been a foul.
@Thijs-Kuiken4 жыл бұрын
@@Luckydad2 really?? That's surprising because I thought the aim of a shot clock was to shorten the duration players take between shots. A rule that is very inefficiently enforced here obviously. But if what you're saying is true, shouldn't it be called "get down for the shot clock" ? :-D So theoretically he's allowed to stay down for an indefinite amount of time after the shot clock went to 0.. as long as he doesn't adjust himself?

I remember way back I was broke I'd go into these whole in the wall places. (Late 90s)And one of em had a pool tournament every Sunday. Bunch of nobodys would join the tournament and I'd win it every single Sunday. Didn't pay much. I had a girlfriend that was running it,they paid her $10 to run the little thing.And she would make it top heavy so most the most went to me. It paid 1st thru 3rd. I didn't make much at all from it maybe $50/$60. So one Sunday night one of my oldest sisters boyfriends brother comes in. And he's lookin for a fight..His girlfriend is trying to calm him down. His best friend is on his other side trying to calm him down.. and I could see it all over him. Somebody was gonna get their ass whipped in that place that night. He come in sitting down by the tables lookin like one of Satan's finest Demons. Well I won my little tournament. And some guy come up and ask if I wanted to play. I said let's do it. And the guy wind up beating me out of the $50 I just spent all night making. I was furious but I didn't show it. I told him good shooting. Shook his hand. He said you know of anyone else that might wanna play some. I pointed him over to Satan's Demon sitting over there. I said those guys might wanna play you some..KNOWING if he said a word to them. It was going down, 100%. I pointed him over there and he started walking that way. I grabbed my stuff and was getting out of dodge. It's as if I just lit a bottle rocket.. I couldn't get away fast enough. I no sooner cleared the pool table walking out when I heard one of the pool tabled sliding across the room. Satan's Demon grabbed that guy by his throat and was pushing that guy over across all the pool tables and he was pushing so hard one table slid into the next and started sliding it lol. Try pushing 3 pool tables across the floor.. Those guys were throwing down buddy. That was awesome. Got my $50 worth of entertainment at least.
