I don't like that Carol and Maude make excuses for Vernon's betrayal of Phillip. They shouldn't interfere with his authentic relationship with his father. I think they should say that his father said the camping trip is off, and let Phillip call his father to find out why.

I loved this show as a kid. It was supposed to be a liberal, feminist show. But, rewatching, it is so Man-Centered and marriage-centered. So many shows are about women needing a man to be happy. It is eye-opening and weird.

I don't agree Maude is a "woman's lib" who owns the rights to making her own decisions and she happened to choose marriage there's nothing un-liberated about having a loving relationship she's in control of her life
