Now this is the story of stand up folks, a class, and might I say "First Class" operation. I do not see any hillbilly engineering here (not that is specifically bad or good for that matter) What I see is a man with skills, understands loading and geometry, grasps very clearly what alignment and "square" means and KNOWS HOW TO WELD understands load bearing and weight distribution, I could go on and on for goodness sake. I watch the transformation of that lovely little truck to something that will continue to be cool and lovely but with a pride in the foundation - FRAME - which is what it ROLLS on and realize it's going to be way better than new, safe, strong, able to be and hold alignment You are a tribute to master fabricators everywhere. Your eye for it is just amazing as well as the heartfelt passion to get it right. What you have done to reveal the dastardly deed and right the wrong for this nice lady is epic. Fun, entertaining but make no mistake how you handled this, how it is being turned around to better than the customer expected (no doubt in my mind to that) is truly evidence still over 200 years later of the amazing country with people that have morals, values and believe in what is right still exists and flourishes today! I am blown away, await the subsequent videos with anticipation and cannot wait to see this cute little Ford such a neat classic ripping around town with no parts falling out from under it or crashing because it will not track straight. It will be riding on a EPIC custom frame from a epic CUSTOM MASTER FABRICATOR that is an honest, decent informed and competent man (and shop of course) Cudos! 10+ 👍👍👍👍

Shame about the original frame not working out, I’ve had similar problems with jobs over the years. You think using an original piece helps with either cost or other complications, but then you reach a point where you realise you’re better off going all new custom. I think what we have here is a situation where a person is doing this type of work at a level far lower than what the level that you guys are. Now we all start out learning how to do things and as we progress we get better and better in our skills. We also see that there are times when we should scrub the mission and start out from scratch like you guys did with the frame on this build. There are people out there who try to "use what you got" when attempting these kinds of fabrication projects. Those people should practice on their own stuff rather than take people's money for substandard work. I myself am no expert on this stuff, but I do fabricate for myself and believe me it is quite the tedious exercise to think this stuff through in order to achieve the desired results. A lot of people do not realize how involved this work is. If people could view the auto manufacturing process they would see just how much is involved in the manufacture of vehicles and just how costly it can be. I have viewed videos of the manufacturing process on automobiles for the time period of this truck (actually a Periscope Films video on a 1936 Chevrolet) and it is awesome the equipment and manufacturing procedures to produce a vehicle. You guys are essentially redesigning a frame and powerplant on one vehicle and that is time consuming. Keep up the quality of the build. The customer will be happy.

Great video. Glad you put James Chapman's name out there. I love working on cars but I don't do any frame work or welding... and I'm an amateur. But you said you were remaking the frame even though the other one was a good one. However, you pointed out that the reason for making your own was the fiberglass and Bondo. That seems ridiculously unsafe to me. Isn't the fiberglass and Bondo just cosmetic?
@LocoCustoms
@LocoCustoms 8 ай бұрын
Really glad you enjoyed the video! It is just cosmetic(not unsafe)the problem is I needed notches in the back for the axle to sit up in and I need mounts to the frame for gas tank, coil overs etc. and having bondo and fiber glass on there I would have to ground it all out to have a stable place to weld and build mounts its just not worth the mess and headache.

Dang guys, you do awesome work. I wish I had the money and lived that way. I have a 1931 rat rod I inherited from my Daddy, he love the thing. The deal was the first time he drove it. He all most flipped on a rough road . His dream was to get it where he could drive it on the highway (at highway speed) he died before we could make that reality. We did get some of the front end straighten out, but I think it needs more work? I would not even know where to begin. So the rear end has the old leaf spring (over the axle). Ait bottoms out with about 2 inches of play between the leaf u bolta and the welded in axle. I wonder if I could send you some pictures and you give me some suggestions on what to do, I am not sure it's safe yet to drive ?

If I'm going to offer my opinion, it's this, how much custom work did he do on the truck? The body work looks to be good, if he did all of the work, he should only pay to replace the frame, but if the price he charged was just for the frame, he should pay it all back, but he should have been more honest up front. If they settled out of court, the point is moot. After watching more of the video, I say the guy should have had to pay the full price back, that car could've killed somebody.
@billywird
@billywird 8 ай бұрын
Well sir this is how our legal system works and it really boils down to what it is going to cost one in legal fees to get x amount of money in a settlement. The fellow that did the work is certainly liable for shoddy work on the frame and suspension on this truck in my opinion, every civil case is different and it always boils down to mediation between the parties and of course the final judgement of the court makes sure the parties adhere to the settlement.
@gb1613
@gb1613 8 ай бұрын
Considering the guy's day job is at an auto parts store, he probably didn't have the full $23k to give back to her. You can't get blood from a stone so rather than waste money on additional lawyer fees to get a judgement she'd never actually collect on, this woman probably just took what she could get from him to be done with it.

This would be true as we have to look at the bottom line here, all though she could pursue this civil claim to the point where she could get a judgement and attach assets but that can be quite a long time to collect on as well. The basic thing here is "buyer beware". And I am sure the woman learned an expensive lesson. There are attorneys who will advise against pursuing a claim such as this because when they get involved the costs for their time is coming out of any settlement with the defendant and it could cost the plaintiff more in legal fees. The law does not allow one to sue for attorney fees unless there is a breach of contract situation, and the defendant is found liable. Learned that when I engaged an attorney to sue an individual back in 1999.@@gb1613

@@LocoCustoms did you say Plymouth?, or did you figure out I'm standing next to a 36 Plymouth truck in my profile photo, I sold that truck to a gut named Kenny who worked at the Toyota dealer in North Vegas when I had it, it had a chevy 383 stroker in it making over 400 horsepower with a turbo 400 & 3200rpm stall, and a hooper built Detroit locker rear end, I thought it was badass till Kenny got ahold of it. he crammed a Chrysler 440 big block in it with dual quad and a shorted quick change rear end, I was totally blown away when he took me for a ride in it back in 2005. I have pics and videos of it

That frame was pieced together like a Georgia road map ,it was boxed in with a pice here and a piece there now that you cut it all up and repaired it it might be fine only if you guys can get it to steer not like the last 3 you worked on they were death trap, now do I know you guys never met you but I do know from the car get together let's hope when you put the engine in it's not doing a nose dive . Like I said I never met you guys brother in law from Vegas bought car from people in pahrump looked good but again steering was dangerous, so keep harping on people when you guys have shady wort out there. On and by the way rack and pinion don't mount on frame of straight axle car 👍
