Woody Ormiston, of Zionsville, Indiana, and 265 pounds at age 21, had a 1953 Chevy 2 door. He was my best friend. I weighed 125 pounds. He had two sets of exhaust manifolds. Stock and “split”. If he was not “laying low” he would bolt on the “split” exhaust manifold and even with “stock” mufflers the sound was mind boggling. Ultra cool. This was in the early 1960’s. We knew how to have, harmless, fun!

What kind of exhaust system do you think this guy's car in the video has? I'm thinking of doing something just like it for my 1951 Chevy, I just love the sound of it!

Like the idea that you stayed with the 6 cylinder which are great engines!!!! Most cars do not need more than them for every day driving!!! Also love shape of the Fleetline fastback!!!

I love it when I see that there isn't a small block Chevy under the hood. A later 235 inline 6 I think from 1953 was a popular hop up replacement motor. I think that engine used a full pressure oiling system and modern clamshell bearings unlike the original 215 engine.

For sure!

53 power glide . The manuals still had babbit pounders. I believe 54 were all full pressure Oilers. They also upgraded to hydraulic lifters

My son has a first series '55 Chevy pickup with a 261 in it with a cam, Clifford 4 barrel intake manifold, Hot Ignition system and uses NGK plugs. It is coupled to a GM 400 transmission and use hydraulic two speed inline O'Drive. It runs like achamp.

This was the same exact motor I built for my grandfathers 50 Chevy convertible. First motor I ever built.

Westberg Advanced Engines. I used to work next door to them. My dad went to school with the owner and I know a bunch of people (including my dad) who have had engines built by him. Pretty cool hearing the name come up on here. Lol. Edit: New to your channel and didn't know you guys were local! I live in Priest River now, but I'm restoring a '50 Chevy and might have to stop by some time and see what's going on.

the ground loop hum is a shame at the beginning. Awesome motor. I always see them in the old GM ww2 trucks. Would love to hotrod one up. Sounds awesome. I can see it getting annoying though on a long drive. Need one of those valves to switch to a quieter muffler.

It's a good thing the drive line was up graded. Back in 1963 I had a 1953 Bel Aire that was converted from Powerglide to a three speed and I when through 6 transmissions in 9 months. The HP and toque of that 235 was too much for that 3 speed. That's why 53-54 Corvettes only came with Powerglides.

Hats off to you brother for keeping the 6 cyl. The old stove bolt is a very good motor. You did a nice job

This is the EXACT same build out of my 51’ Styleline. A bored out 261 CI inline 6 that makes upwards of 300 horse. With a 5-speed Manuel out of a Chevy S10…

im currently in the process of looking for a fleetline for a simple project. I got a small block as a gift so im gonna be using that. I was curious if it would probably be a good idea to swap the rear end for something stronger or if the stock one was any good.
