Great to see my hero Brian Pedley again. His Min was orange when I was a regular supporter, never thought I`d see him again, great days! Addenda - I have just learned from a well known author of books on this subject that Brian was leading the points championship at this point but was robbed of a win here because an oil seal failure caused clutch slippage with the result seen above.

First World final i went to, by train just for the Saturday of the weekend as the car I had on the road would probably not made the 200 mile round trip :). The good old days before the crappy plastic covered spaceframes took over.

"Steenkamp" - raced for my father-in-law. FIL was the owner of that Escort. He flew 8 of those over from SA for the preparation to the WC 1975.

Father-in-law, Jurgens Steyn, was the owner of this company at the time and sponsored several riders, including himself during the early seventies. Fourth place is not too shabby for SA!! I think Barry Lee would have won this easily if he had of had a slightly better starting position on the grid . It always struck me as wrong for the World Final that they used to draw the names out of the hat for grid position. During the season ALL the best drivers start at the back so they have a fairly equal chance to make it all the way to the front and win the race but in the World final you might get one of the top drivers or a few of them right at the front and another few top drivers right at the back ( as happened here ) . No matter how good you are , you are NOT going to be able to catch another Top driver if he is 30 cars in front of you . It’s just not possible . By the time you pass 30 odd cars the other driver will usually have an unassailable lead .
