HOT TENT in SNOW. WILD winds, SMOKEY stove

When it's this cold and you have a beard, sometimes you get snotsicles. Sometimes it takes a long time to get the tent warm. Cold toes and a smokey stove are in store on this trip as I adjust to the extreme cold for another winter. It's like a Snowland at the tent and it makes for jaw-dropping beauty. The sun is so low, and so orange all day long, and when it hits the trees it makes for an incredible scene. I hope that you get to experience the beauty as I do on this overnight adventure. Lots of great food, strong winds rocking the tent, and cleaning up the new site are in store. I hope you enjoy the trip!
Here are all of my tiny cabin hot tent videos: www.youtube.co....
Follow me on Instagram: / ajayinthewoods
How much experience do I have?
That depends. I am pretty good at starting a fire these days and gathering wood. But I don't really have true bushcraft skills and definitely no carpentry or construction skills or training. I could probably make a shelter if I had to, but that would just come from all the KZbin training (watching) over the years.
What gear do I use?
Canon 90D camera
Rode videomicro
Sigma Art 18-35mm 1.8
Sigma Art 50mm 1.4
Canon 10-18mm stm
I do not live in the tent. I just visit whenever I can.

We grew up eating a lot of margarine also, and then, when I grew older, we found out that margarine has the same chemicals in it that makes plastic, whereas butter is churned from cow or goat's milk. This is why we no longer eat any foods with margarine. Butter makes everything taste much better - including homemade chocolate chip cookies!! With that recipe, you have to add two sticks of butter, yummy for the tummy!🍪🍪🍪🍪

I grew up on margarine, but I exclusively use whole butter now. Put just a touch of avocado oil in with the butter and it won’t burn as quickly.

Great video!!! Small tip. You can cut up corn tortillas in bits then fry them. Soon as the sausage is browned throw in the tortillas. Brown the tortilla bits to a slight crisp then add egg!! I'm Mexican we call that migas con salchichas. Hope you enjoy!

When I was stationed at Loring AFB in the early 80’s. We had temps below -60 f. My mukluks and bunny boots where perfect. Never got cold feet. Matter of fact I just returned a bran new pair of mukluks because they came with out the felt liners. I spent 3 years in upper northern Maine. Side note, I am from Maine and still live there. I have actually seen my breath crystalize on an exhale and look like little ice flakes. Oh Man, tomato soup and a grilled ham and cheese YUMM. BUTTAH is much better for you. That other stuff is just processed vegetable oil and other crap. Jay l love watching your winter camping videos. Reminds me of my younger days, I still do a little winter camping, but the weather messes with the old bones. Awesome content.

Jay... you could use the tent frame 2x4 s ....... Heck they may already be the length you need or close to it ..... get more blocks and and line level...level off the existing blocks .... and cut your 1st 2x4 to the length you need .... and you can just toe it in place .... or use floor joist hangers .... like the ones you use for a front porch or patio add on ..... it's the block placements and leveling that's the most important.... there's lots of videos and info on KZbin 😁 have fun brother ... stay safe .... see you soon Boss man 😁☕🏆

Coming from a post-soviet state, I only learned margarine is a synthetic replacement for butter when I was like... 15. Till then, I considered "butter" to be just a fancier version of margarine for those who wanted to feel posh and prim. So hearing how people consider it almost evil was just kinda funny to me.

Just for future reference Jay. I know you used a dead Birtch tree. Birch bark should be harvested in the spring when the sap is running in the trees. However, if done too late in the season the cambium (inner bark) will come off with the outer bark. If the cambium is damaged the tree may die. If done right, a tree will re-grow its bark over the course of 10-20 years.

Good vid Jay . Ok so . They sell a metal bracket that nails to a existing structure like your house and then ppl add on deck to the house . The brackets come in a lot of sizes . 2x4 , 2x6 , 2x8 , 2x10 ,3x6 , u get the jist of things I hope . So . Nail or screw them to the deck that is there then add the laugh of wood u want or need out . U will need all the short boards for ends and mid with one long board for the new outside piece and a few 4x4 posts . You have the time buzz out after work one night to re-measure just how wide you need to make it , then pre cut most of the lumberat the house. U may only need to bringout 2 long boards and 3 4x4s to cut on site . You should find the brackets at any hardware store. Its a U shape bracket but obviously flat for the board to sit on . Look under someone's deck to get a idea of would im talking about.

It took me 6 days to watch every minute of this awesome video...was busy but kept coming back to watch. Now let's talk about POOP!! Always a delicate subject when " there's a woman in the tent" and it's nice to have company ..sometines..haha!! and we want them to have an anxious free pooping experience so they come back again. So here's my system: I built my woodshed with a door in which I reserved a space for the poop pail. I use an ordanairy 5 gal pail with regular white kitchen garbage bags. But the secret ingrediant is the stove ashes. I make the ashes like "cooking flower" by straing them with a metalic pasta strainer. Once the poop is covered by the ashes, the smell almost instantly disapears. And since woman like to keep their poop a mysterious secret , then the next user won't see them. Take care man !!

My husband says it should be easy to extend the platform. Make the extension, like building a wall before standing it up? But don't add the plywood to the top yet. [2x4's [10's] between the outside 2x10's] Picture a ladder, but squared. Then screw/nail the new 2x10 to the existing 2x10 on the platform. Then add the plywood. You probably know how to do the blocks under it, on frozen ground.
