Good video, just did my 2013 GSAdv without removing spark plugs, crash bars or skid plate! I used your screw driver method for removing the old belt. To install the new belt I just had to hold the bottom of the belt in place with my finger on the side as I turned the pulley with a wrench. 30 minute job including removing and reinstalling the cover.

Good video, even when doing this with the engine in the bike, its a good demonstration of the basic procedure. If you are doing this on an RT, removeing the left side fairing mount strut helps with accessibility.

This is a useful as a video showing you taking your bike to a BMW Motorcycle dealership and asking them to replace the belt. The reason being that when you keep your engine on your motorcycle, like most of us do, none of this is of any use. The BMW tool is just as expensive as having the belt replaced by BMW.

Yet if the engine was in place in the bike, it would be incredibly difficult to show the process. Purchasing the special tool - which is not necessary but does make the job easier - may cost as much as having a tech replace the belt for you, but the tool is a one-time replacement cost, whereas without the tool, you have to pay a tech to do the work every time it's needed. Plus we make it clear that while the tool makes it easier (and thus faster, which is why for some people it's worth themoney), we also show the tool is not strictly necessary.

Trocar a correia foi fácil, difícil foi tirar e depois voltar o motor na motocicleta.

lol yes, doing it on an engine not in the bike made it a lot easier :)

do the alternators fail, on 1200GS s? Or when do you need to rebuild them?
@BMWMOAorg10 күн бұрын
Any alternator CAN fail, yes, but failed alternators are not a common problem on this generation of bike. I probably wouldn't bother getting one rebuilt as long as it wasn't displaying any indications of failing and would certainly expect it to last at least 100,000 miles. BMW might have a different opinion, that's just mine.

@BMWMOAorg well, mine just passed 137,000 miles 😊 probably in the winter i would get it out, and have a shop rebuild it just to be on the safe side.

I used a 1liter water bottle cut up to put it on.

I realize this is for demonstration purposes, but it looks like you were almost able to stretch that belt around before using any tools. My new belt is a lot tighter than that. Plus exhaust and front suspension are in the way of the wrench and screwdriver. Would not work at all for me.

We were using the old belt, so it probably had more stretch to it than a new belt would.
