When I first heard Hot Water back in the mid 90's I was instantly hooked because I hadn't heard hard driven emo music like this and the dual gruff vocals were the icing on the cake because Jeff Ott of Crimpshrine was probably my favorite singer at the time. There is or was a band out of the UK called Milloy that is very similar to Hot Water kinda like early Saves The Day was to Lifetime. There was also another band off of Deep Elm records called Lock and Key that had a Hot Water Vibe to them vocals and all!

People refuses to learn what real Emotional Hardcore was. MCR, Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy etc, are all Pop Punk bands. Acts like HWM, Alkaline Trio, Jawbreaker, Sunny Day Real Estate are real Emo bands. The first two albums of HWM are pure Emotional Hardcore. The third have a few songs with that influence. Emo music is not about the pseudo-counter-culture that emerged in 2000's, is not about eyeliner and dyed hair, or about sad adolescents. Emotional Hardcore is about feelings, as bad as good, transposed in the lyrics, in the tone of guitars, in the rawness and delivery of the vocals. All that you all call Emo isn't real Emo. Is Pop Punk, period. Clearly at the time this song was recorded Hot Water Music wasn't an Emo band anymore, but HWM was Emo at least between '97 to '99. Just read the lyrics, or search for the critics reviews about the first three albums.
