Thanks Brandon, I was blown away by the improvement that I've seen so far. I've only tried mediocre cars just to get a feel for it before I start on my faster cars. Thanks for all the pointers you've given me in your videos, I appreciate it!

I love the downhill endurance track. I'm still an old school racer. I have a NASCAR superspeedway set up. I used to used a dual lane rod runner. Now I use TB 13 boosters from track builder. And believe me, the graphite has them doing outstanding lap times. While I'm on holiday vacation I'm going to build a down hill endurance track. Very nice set up you have. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Go Hot Wheels!!!

Thanks Keith for your great comments! We have a great time with the endurance track. I love drag races but I prefer the endurance track for all the action it produces with back and forth racing. I hope you and yours had a great holiday season also! Thanks for watching and commenting!

The irony here, based on what I've read from folks at Redline Derby who bothered to do the math (with my gratitude), is that graphite makes a bigger improvement on wheels that weren't that great untreated and improves a great set of stock wheels to a much lesser degree.
@Chris_Hood2 жыл бұрын
Now here's a question. In the event that you wanted to further improve the car, but don't want to go so far as swapping axles that require careful cutting, a jig and epoxy to do, could putting graphite on the axle itself where it rests inside the channel cut out for it in the base of the car result in a little extra speed? That would involve drilling the rivets out and opening the car, but sealing it back up isn't a real difficulty.
@kirkparker35812 жыл бұрын
I agree with this, the better the wheels and the faster the car, the less improvement seen by graphite...but still some gain.
@xtremediecastracing84682 жыл бұрын
That makes a lot of sense. If you have a good set of wheels and axles to begin with then there isn't much room for improvement. Switching out the axles is difficult and I've never done it for speed. I have switched them out to change wheels when painting and restoring a car. It would be much more technical for speed. I have tried to get the graphite into the inner axle but I've no idea if it's actually working. All I know is all the cars I've used graphite on have all improved but I've mostly tried cars that are mediocre to begin with. I'll try better cars once I've know exactly what I'm doing. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I have noticed that with many of the newer HW castings, say in a 5 pack, that one car may stand out as way faster than the rest. Pick the car up and spin the wheels, they seem to roll really smooth and with not much, if any, resonance. Graphite all 5 of them and you will more than likely see an improvement across the board. Except not always. Sometimes that fast car pre-dust will just not improve, or actually slow down. I suspect some of these newer cars have some residual manufacturing oil left on the axles from the axle T-head process. Which would explain the quiet and smooth roll. Adding dry graphite to an oil wetted surface, especially on these 28-40g cars usually adds drag. JL kinda falls under the same umbrella. Except I'm not so sure they aren't possibly adding some oil before popping the hubcaps on. Many times I have seen evidence of heavy oil when popping caps for the first time on them. Adding dust at this point is fruitless. Why we always say, if you find a really fast JL out of the package, leave it alone!

Nice simple before and after showcasing the long track...graphite is helpful, messy and has its own challenges in time and sometimes cost. I too believe that the faster the car/better the wheels, the less net gain from graphite...

Michael thank for the props. A few other guys do specific tuturials. You mentioned Red Pill, but Brandon of Scale Racing Channel, Dale of DXP Diecast Racing and League of Speed have excellent videos on the subject. Guys have slightly different techniques for working behind the axle. It all boils down to what results work best for you and what type(s) of graphite you prefer. What a great improvement on the pick-up!

Judging from the shape of the bottle in your little tub, you were using Maximum Velocity brand graphite, yes? Pricey stuff, if that's the case, but it comes recommended by at least one big name in the hobby of modding cars. Not all graphite powder is created equal. Stay away from the Hillman brand you'll find in the key cutting area of most DIY stores! Good for locks, not so much for cars.
@xtremediecastracing84682 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice on Hillman, I'll stay away. I bought the graphite on Amazon and the brand name is e-jades. It's the only graphite if used so far so I have no reference to judge it by. I do know I really liked the results! Thanks for your great comments!
